Before Muhammad (pbuh), there were many other prophets. These include the prophets of Israel, but are not exclusive to. They were national prophets bringing God's revelation to nations. It may be said (though it has not been recognized) that Bhudda, Zarathustra and other religious figues could have been prophets. Muhammad however is the world prophet. His message is meant to supercede all cultural, racial or class based boundaries and to unite all of humanity, not just his nation of the Arabs. His purpose is to unify the message of all prophets before him (includeing Jesus, or Isa in the Islamic tradition) and to banish all things that have changed the message of God over time. An example is the Bible. It was written by many different people or along time periods far after the events it narrates. Muhammad's purpose was to get rid of all the things that had added themselves to the Bible overtime. He is the last prophet becuase he is the universal prophet that spreads a message of God that does not discriminate and unites all humanity. He purifies the message of the previously revealed Torah and Gospel. I hope this answers your question.

According to the Qu'ran yes. But, here is the funny thing the Islam, Jewish, Christianity all rely on the old testament however there is no relation to the old testament as there being a "last" prophet. Jesus was in fact God and not a prophet the Book of Issaiah talks about the "Everlasting God" being born as it relates to Christians New Testament in Mathew and Mark. Christianity seems to be more flowing and in hand old through new testament. Jewish are basically old tradition and do not want to relate Jesus as the Messiah hence the new testament is not accepted. This started from the crucifiction of Jesus Christ the Religious wacks wanted to keep the old tradition and hide the jewish people from what Christ brought to the table for fear their religious orgainization would be abandon and lose profit and make them have no status so they killed Jesus. Plus Jesus dying as God was also predicted in the Old testament. If you read the Qu'ran it copys christianity and everything Jesus did I think Mohamed saw how it pulled people together and decided to create islam and copy some of what Christ has done and added his own spices to make it seem more enchanting this is how he pulled the arabs together under a fake religion. Read the Qu'ran and the New testament amazing simularities even though the new testament is older than the Qu'ran. Best wishes.

Mohammed is the last prophet that there will ever be. Jesus did deliver the gospels but Mohammeds purpose was not only to deliver the gospels it was to spread the religion of Islam. See when he was 40 years old he was climbing a mountain when he saw a light. He went into a cave and was scared. Then the light etered the cave. It said "Read in the name of god, that there is no god but Allah and Mohammed is his messenger." So prophet Muhammed had to spread the religion ISLAM and send the final book the QURAN. (There are 3 books : The Torah, The Bible and the Quran)
Hope That answers your question

I think I have written enough about this topic here on YA! but just wanted to add the comments to whynotaskdan who said there is no evidence that anything like that happened and then HE tells us a story of Jesus dying on the cross and being the last prophet (which doesn't make any sense since he says Jesus is God) without prodiving anyone a single evidence...
I don't see any problems with accepting Muhammed as the last prophet because if all the rules that God has sent to us are preserved just the way they were sent unto Muhammed.
Why did God sent yet another and last prophet after Jesus? Simple, his followers started to preach everything against Jesus' teachings because of some guy name Paul who didn't even meet Jesus...
Jesus said "My Father is greater than I", "My Father is greater than all". His followers say "Jesus is God".
Jesus bowed down to his face to pray God. His followers are boiwing down to Jesus.
Jesus' own word "Not everyone who says to me "Lord, Lord" will enter the heaven, but those who do the will of my father". His followers say "Say Jesus is your Lord and savior and you will be saved"
Jesus said "Don't think I have come to destroy the Law but to fulfill". His followers say "The Law doesn't apply to us".
I can go on and on but some people are too hard headed to understand their own religious scriptures and then they have nurves to bash others' religious beliefs.

thanks for pointing us to those video clips. they are very interesting and that i take exhilaration in being presented to Ahmed Deedat. it is the deal: Any knowledgeable Muslim can win a debate with a Christian fundamentalist with regard to the theology of the Trinity or the divinity of Jesus, a minimum of contained in the eyes of a impartial observer. The question, in spite of the undeniable fact that, is this: If Jesus is one among your prophets why do not Muslims practice the rules of love and forgiveness that He taught? (and do not turn it round and say, "properly, why do not Christians?" we are no longer speaking about Christians.) Mohammad contained in the context of the sixth century become saintly and enlightened. Muslim way of existence contained in the twenty first century is backward, vindictive, and harsh. Galatians 5:15 (New international version) 15 in case you shop on biting and devouring one yet another, pay attention or you'd be destroyed with the aid of one yet another.

Jesus didn't deliver the gospels, he inspired them. Moses delivered the 10 commandments. Prophets are here to remind us to love and taker care of each other--we were taught this by Moses, Mohamed, Jesus, and Ghandi, and for some reason we keep forgetting...

" if Jesus delivered the gospels , why Muhammed is necessary " ??? . because : if Moses delivered the 10 commandments , why Jesus is necessary ? .... there's 12 centuries between Moses and Jesus , and 6 centuries between Jesus and Muhammed .......societies are in progress .. and Islam's precepts are most detailed .

Mohamed was a "legend in his own mind" He was a fore runner to Adoft hitler and Jim Jones, a cross between a fool and an opportunity which he took advantage of and in doing so released hell on earth for his people until islam is gone.
Rome was in decay due to losing their democracy to despots rulers who only cared for themselfs and their power.
That left only the British with their crusader peasant army being led by a group of men who were confident they would accumulate great wealth and favor with god and kings by pushing the islamic infidels back into the christian fold. It may have worked and there would be only christiansin the area which would have made for much peace. But the knoghts of grand ole britain left os many dead christinas in their trek across europe they europe itself nearly fell to rid themslefs of the murderous christian army, Often villagers would rush to the meet the christian arm wiht highhopes for christian victory only to be cut down on the spot with entire villages and areas killed, women raped and sold, children lost . Most christians had no idea what to look for and anything different was an enemy, and distroyed. This created a huge opportunity for mohamed and is the reasson for his victories, especially in turkey, albania, and eastern balkins areas he occupied.
MOhanmed was a guyu in the right place at the right time just as hitler was ahd he was not one iola differenbt in his convictioncs, and beleifs or means to obtain them.

Only islam says all the above.
They have NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER of any of it!
After the Q was finished The Caliph had ALL the fragments and other scriptures destroyed to remove any chance of another and better Q.
Jesus IS the last PROPHET.
HE DID die on the cross, no substitute.
~~NO Hate here == just FACTS!~~

Jesus was the Messiah. And we await for his return.
If you look in Act 1:13, you will find other prophets who lived after Jesus.
Other prophets came, one name Muhammad who founded Islam. Muhammad waits for Jesus return.
When Jesus returns, he will be the last prophet.
