Everyone has a chance of getting Alzheimer's--there's no test yet to say yes or no.
I have a 50% chance (because my dad has it and his maternal aunt had it) but my husband hasn't divorced me, my friends haven't left me.
There's also a 50% chance a person WON'T get it.
Is the glass half empty or half full? And if what's in it tastes delicious and makes you happy, what does it matter?

If you think about it, we ALL have a 50/50 chance of getting Alzheimer's... or something else! I would not worry about what someone MIGHT get, as there are too many things out there that could happen besides that as well - brain tumor, cancer, hit by a mack truck, gosh any of those would also be devastating as would a thousand other situations or conditions. Live your life to the fullest and find the joy, don't focus on the doom and gloom. (my dad had Alzheimer's, my mom had cancer, my uncle had a brain tumor and subsequent schizophrenia, but then again my aunt lived to be 102 and many others in the family lived to a ripe old age as well. I am not going to worry about my chances of catching Alzheimer's - which are 50/50, but I do try to live as healthy as possible while I am here.)

First, I'd ask where the 50% came from and whether that was really a legitimate figure. I'd also do some research on finding out how often Alzheimers may be caused by heredity and how often it is believed to be caused by things like environmental exposures, foods, aluminum ingestion etc.
It probably matters how old you both are. If you're 25, and the type of Alzheimers in question is believed to set in at 80 that's one thing. If you're 35, and there's reaston to think the other person has a high risk of getting it at 45 that's another thing. Another thing is are just dating them or looking to marry them?
I can't say whether I would or wouldn't, but the one thing I'd be very, very careful about is exactly where did the 50% thing come from, whether there is conflicting opinion, etc.
In a way, many, many people have a risk of getting it. That's something else to realize.

What gives them a 50% chance of Alzheimers? Would you not date them if they had a chance of getting cancer?

Everyone has a chance of getting alzheimers at some point in their life, usually in their old age. So not dating anyone with a chance of getting it will make you a very lonely person.
Having a chance of getting it is different from having it.

i'm sorry this has took place to the two you and your dad. You, for taking the hit, and your dad for suffering from this ailment. i don't know what the police could do different than take a checklist. If I have been you i could examine together with his medical expert approximately putting him in residing house care. i know that's a not hardship-free factor to do, yet some thing needs to be completed. Get a duplicate of the checklist and make contact with your states long term Care. There must be a internet site and maximum probable a telephone quantity to be able to realize them. Edit: If the police do have him hospitalized like CleanMind states, then from there they are going to place him. nonetheless, get in touch with the long term Care human beings.
