We have surround sound. It is driving me crazy. It is connected to our DVD player. Came as one whole system. My problem is the sound. We have to turn it up to hear what people are saying but the music is so loud that it almost blows your eardrums out. If we turn it down you can't hear what people are saying. Does anyone know how we would make the music and words come out at the same decible? ANY help is appreciated. Thank you

Edit: It's a kawasaki (sp?) if that helps. The instruction booklet does not talk about this problem at all. Again thanks for any help.

Check whether your system has channel options (5.1 channel or 2.1 channel), If using 5.1, switch your system to Dolby Pro Logic mode (Dialogue on movies will exit from center speaker only, 2.1 channel, dialogue will pass through the 2 main speaker, mixed with other sounds). If it doesn't work, go to the speaker volume menu and adjust the volume of its speaker or tone control. Last resort is call the manufacturer's authorized service centers, they are most willing to assist you. Happy listening and viewing.

Nice Shoes!
The problem could be in your audio set up in your surround system.
First make sure you center speaker is wired properly and no wires are touching each other.
That done lets go into your audio set up and make sure your told the receiver that you have a center speaker and it is engaged.
Second in the audio set up, did you balance the speakers? It sound that someone has turn the volume down on the center speaker and has thrown the system out of whack. If this does not help you might want to take it in to a repair shop, could be the center speaker is not functioning.

It sounds like you are missing the center speaker in your system. All dialog comes from the center speaker. You do not have to have a center speaker, but your system set up must indicate whether or not you have one. If you do not have a center channel speaker, but you have set up your player to indicate that there is one, the player will send the dialogue to the non-existent center speaker and you won't hear it. If you set up the player indicating that you do not have a center speaker, it will send the dialogue to the two main front speakers equally, and you will hear it. So, either you do not have a center speaker but the system thinks you do, or you have one and it is not connected properly or it is defective.

I agree with gp4rts. There must be something going on with your center channel. Maybe you have the polarity wrong? Maybe the drivers in the cc are blown? Also do you have an optical cable(either coaxial or toslink) running from the DVD player to the receiver? If you don't you might not be getting 5.1 sound to your receiver from your DVD player.
Hope this helps.

With surround sound you should have an equalizer of sorts...it will let you mess around with the sound settings (like on a radio, Rock Jazz News, ect) Your instruction booklet should tell you how to access your equalizer and then you can change the sound settings the way that you want them.
