Depo provera (The injection) should last atleast 3 months, usually lasts 6-9 months. However it is given every 3 months to maximise effectiveness. No contraceptive is 100% effective, i believe the effectiveness of the injection is quoted around 95-98%. If you are getting your regular period then the effectiveness has worn off, if you are getting spotting then that is a common side effect.

It is impossible to answer your question fully as you do not have enough details. I would recommend ringing up a sexual advice line/sexual clinic and talk to them about it. Did you get an information pamphlet when you got the injection? The other option is to go back to the person that gave you the injection.

I recommend using alternative contraception eg. condoms until you get a definite answer.

If you recieved the shot then it is working, keep in mind that no birth control is 100% affective. A common side effect is spotting. This can last a full three months (the length of the first shot). Usually, by the second shot your cycle should stop completely or untill you miss a shot. I would strongly suggest you read a pamplet or look on Yahoo health to find out more. Hope this helps.

I got the shot in March before I was discharge from having my baby. So far I've had two and my third is at the end of this month but I don't plan on getting it. Ive never got a period after my postpartum bleeding stopped but I spot all the time usually it in the morning when I wake and and stops by the middle of the day. So basically what you are experiencing is normal because it happens to me all the time to the point where I always wear a pantyliner when I go to sleep so it wont ruin my panties and also Ive had all my shots on time.

I don't know what type of shot ya got...if it was the Deprovera in the pamphlet I got it said you "could" or "could not" have one...some women do and some don't...I personally never had one during the time of take those shots...I can tell you this, I got some serious mood swings from them, and I didn't know I was having them...other people noticed it and said something to me about it...I had gotten pretty violent on it. and when I was ready to have a baby it took me three years AFTER being off the shot...I would suggest you talk to your doctor...but I think it can be normal...
