Short-term effects of marijuana include: problems with memory and learning, distorted perception (sights, sounds, time, touch), trouble with thinking and problem solving, loss of motor coordination, increased heart rate, and anxiety. These effects are even greater when other drugs are mixed with marijuana.A user may also experience dry mouth and throat.

Long term effects: Marijuana smoke contains some of the same cancer-causing compounds as tobacco, sometimes in higher concentrations.Studies show that someone who smokes five joints per week may be taking in as many cancer-causing chemicals as someone who smokes a full pack of cigarettes every day

Marijuana is infamous for effecting memory and coordination. This is a matter of state of mind, and most people get high to relax, forget, or emotional anesthetize themselves.

Any substance that when burnt, will create smoke and is breathed in is not good for you. Many of the different plants that are smoked create a resin that can be classified as a carcinogen.

Marijuana has not been proven to kill brain cells, but it does alter the way you brain reacts during chemical responses, by the THC mimicking dopamine. Dopamine has many functions in the brain. Most importantly, dopamine is central to the reward system.[1] Consistent usage changes the way you react to dopamine. The extreme effect created by the drug is hard to recreate by just physical experiences and this can lead to addiction.

It is believed that the loss of braincells comes from the smoker holding their breathe. So why don't tobacco lose brain cells in the same numbers? Because the average weed smoker holds their hit in for an extended period of time and are able to do so because marijuana smoke is less harsh than tobacco smoke.

While addiction can be related to chemical imbalances it is at source a decision. People make the choice to be addicts they are very rarely truthful enough with themselves to accept it.

Ok...well, marijuana does not kill brain cells...there is no scientific evidence that proves that theory....and even if it did, our brain cells can be regenerated...we are not just going to go completely brain dead. Also, as quoted by a midwife that I had while pregnant..."there are no scientific medical studies that show that marijuana causes cancer". The only thing that is known is that people who smoke marijuana usually smoke cigarettes and that is where that link comes into play. Marijuana may have some bad to it.yes, the smoke, yes, maybe it can hurt your lungs....but, there are also benefits. People with MS smoke at times to help with there pain....people with cancer who are prescribed medical marijuana sometimes see there tumors shrink in size or stop growing....people with epilepsy who smoke may not have seizures due to the calming effect that it has. Also, as for the comment where it said that marijuana is worse becuase it doesn't have a filter...PLEASE!! Marijuana is natural...god put it on this earth...cigarettes are man made and have 100's of additives and carcinogens added to them....who do you trust????Just because there is a filter on a cigarette that doesn't make it safer. Also, on this note...didn't you ever think the government doesn't want to make it legal because then they wouldn't make so much money off "the people". Come on ppl.....mother nature has some wonderful plants and weeds that were put on this earth by God.....if it is something that we can benefit from....then why not? Everything can kill you...can we all say alcohol!?

THC, is very toxic, causes lung disease, heart disease, brain damage (loss of memory). Ever look at the tar at the end of a stick? THC attaches to your fat cells in your brain amongst others. Your body can't get rid of it quick enough, therefore you never see anyone get the DT's. It is not water soluble. Your body can only get rid of 2 sticks a week at about the equivalent of a 3% THC level. Needless to say today's street level stick is anywhere from 12% to 15% THC... Need I say more...

Its a class A drug for starters!!! Kills brain cells as well which are not replaced. It is a stimulant which relaxes your senses and makes you feel good. However this is a short term thing as you need to keep smoking it to make it effective continually.Find something more useful to do with yourself instead of this crap.

Most the effects have to do with memory and learning, providing you only smoke moderately.
If you smoke a lot there are probably more serious, long-term effects.

Head spins, stomach turns, unclear thinking. Pretty much the same as alcohol. It took me 10 years to get enough of it. I'm glad I don't do either anymore.
