I've been in a relationship with this girl for 4 years and on every date I'm always the one taking her out, is this the way things are suppose to be, or should she take me out every now and then, 1/5 of the time, whatever

If I were you, I'd be a bit upset that my girlfriend never took me out or offered to pay. Relationships are meant to be fairly equal, after all.

It's culture specific. In Germany, for example, the girlfriend pays for herself almost all the time because men still make some extra gifts here and there, and she is expected to make plans for the couple as a fully equal partner. Similar sentiments are becoming more widespread in the States thanks to feminism and men's backlash against it, in that some men decide not to pay for feminists who want to be treated equally. I personally don't allow a girlfriend to take advantage of me, so unless she's compensating you somehow for your money (wink wink), it might be a good idea to find someone less demanding or lazy.

Well I've been with my boyfriend for 2 years, and at this point our money has sort of blended together. But the way we would do it if I paid for lunch, he paid for dinner. Or sometimes I would pay for things all day and he would pay the next day. You definitely shouldn't be paying the whole way though

Of course there are no fixed rules but it would seem like it may be a good idea to find a girlfriend that doesn't need to be fed hints to take up the slack! What's been happening your last 4 birthdays, 'anniversaries', Valentines? That answer would shed alot of influence on MY decission. Unless she is carrying a third to a half the load, it's curb time baby!

Well it is customary for the man to pay for everyhting (except the wedding, where the bride's family does most of the thing). You could tell her to give a more equal share, because you are running out of money or something. She might be slightly surprised or insulted though. You could be more subtle and just wait before paying in a restaurant to see if she pays.

Women don't pay - get with the program.

What I did is make them dinner once for every 2x they paid.

One time I had a guy that didn't make much money so I treated now and then. After a while he was taking advantage so I dumped him.

I figure if I'm not prized enough to take out, he's not worth it.

Honestly that depends on the relationship, but talk to her about the money situation. If she's been with you for 4 years then it should be open game.

A relationship that is anything less than 50 / 50 won't last.
It doesn't always have to be equal in finance or labor as long as each does what they can to help the other without question.

I'm old school in the true sense. The guy pays for dinner like my Dad always did!

Ask yourself what kind of salary she has compared to yours, it's possible she doesn't have the money to pay. Just a thought.
