i take topamax for migraines but it is also an antidepressant and it actually makes you lose weight, very weird side effects though. such as not being able to taste carbonation, strange dreams, etc.

Well you didnt mention what you HAVE tried so here goes...:)
If you havent tried Effexor yet I would ask your doc about that one--it made me the opposite of tired, and actually didnt have an appetite much either when i was taking it years ago...It also didnt have the sexual side effects that the others I was on did...zoloft, prozac et all.
Id check it out if you havent yet, it may be better for you than the other usual meds the drs. are giving out for depression aka zoloft, prozac, wellbutrin..
good luck!:)
In the meantime if you are taking your current meds early in the day & the sleepiness is a problem, try taking them at night instead, you will sleep well & may not be able to stay awake long enough to eat late--thats why they make ya gain weight, they UP your appetite usually as well! If you do this & are sluggish in the morning that is a temp. side effect that WILL most assuredly pass in a week or so as your body gets a tolerance to it somewhat.

Some are worse than others. It all depends on the method of action. it seems like anxiety meds and antipsychotics are some of the worst. You really have to talk to your doc who will have first hand knowledge on that topic. Other times, if you know your starting a med that can cause gains, you can acknowledge it and be careful. Good luck in finding the right one for you. so much of it is trial and error, but you'll get there... dont give up!

Any new medication has to run its course as far as those side effects are concerned. It usually it takes 30 days for the fatigue to go away. Zoloft has worked well for alot of people, with no weight gain. Remember everyone is different and will react differently to meds. Keep your doc in the loop of any side effects you might be having. Good Luck- it takes alot of courage to get help with depression.

Everyone reacts differently to different medications, so it may be that you need to experiment a little bit with which one you take. Generally, the longer you take it, the less you notice or have side effects. I recommend you don't take Avanza if you don't want to feel tired or gain weight - this one is well known for both side effects.
Oh and ignore Gurrdy, exercise and diet help, but it's not necessarily an over all solution, particularly if you have severe or long-term depression. Do what's right for you.

Yes some of them do. Look up on the Internet the anti depressant you are taking and see what the side effects are. Also you may not be doing as much as you use too. Some anti depressants stimulate the appetite.

You might want to try a natural herbal remedy called St. Johns Wort. I used it years ago to deal with a bout of depression after trying every prescription available. Prescription medications had horrible side effects that were worse than the depression itself. This worked wonders for me without any side effects at all.
Hope that helps.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.
Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

no i have never, i myself am on depresion medication and they make you tired, but only when you are new to them after about 3 months you are alot better off. the reason for wight gain is because you are so tired that you dont want to do anything, so you are just sitting around eating. you need to take your medication at the same time everyday, and maybe take a multi vitamin with it.
