Ja, ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch. Ich studierte die Sprache in einem 3-Jahr-Kurs, vor ungefähr zehn Jahren. Das war einfach, weil es mir gefallen hat.

Now, in English, so those who can't stand things in another language don't get mad. And also in case I didn't make myself clear in German. What I tried to say in the first paragraph was:

Yes, I speak a little German. I studied the language in a 3-year course, about 10 years ago. It was easy, because I liked it.

I'm partially German, about 75%+ but am not from Germany.
I can speak German decently, but am going to be attending some classes this coming Spring semester in College.
Unfortunately my German 201/2 were both not available due to low attendance, so I will be a bit rusty when Spring rolls around.
The language has never been a challenge for me, I was at the top of my class for both years I took German. When I took Spanish, I was not very good at all, in comparison to German.

My Fathers family, who is just about 100% German, came from the area around Stuttgart. Most of the family still lives there apparently, I would love to visit them sometime soon.

My maternal grandmother came from modern-day Poland, where Prussia and East-Germany used to be, while my maternal grandfather came from the northwest near Belgium and the Neatherlands. The paternal side of my family came scattered about northern Germany.

My mother and brother and I were raised in Canada, taught only English (and French) so that we'd fit in. My mom remembered the hate she faced in school even as late as the 60s and 70s for being a German, and wanted us to be simply Canadian.

I studied German myself and in school because I wanted to learn about my history, heritage, and culture, and heck yes it was hard! Even after travelling to Germany (Baden-Wüttermburg) my grammer is scheiße, but I've been improving and I can at least understand it and make myself understood usually.

What I found in Germany kinda disappointed me. Germany was different from North America, sure, but not nearly as different as I thought it would be. I was expecting to learn about Germany, but all I saw was MTV, which was even in the original English half the time. And the wierdest thing was, nobody seemed to mind the loss of uniquely German culture.

Well, my grandmother's family is originally from Germany (she's from the German colonies in Argentina, and before that, from the German colonies on the Wolga river in Russia), but her generation was the last that was actually taught German in the colonies' schools (it's Spanish only now).

I'm in the USA for the moment, going to college. I start school in a week, and my first class is Elementary German at 9:00 sharp. :)

What do you need to know about Germany ? Feel free to ask. There are many friendly Germans out there.

Most of the German haters don't even know why they hate them. It's just a way of being cool to hate someone.
