I am a recent Fine Arts grad who would love to be a pre-school teacher (teaching art and everything else).
I would like to know what the starting salaries are for both public and private schools in New York city if I had a Masters degree.
Is a masters degree even necessary? Should I just get a teaching certificate?

Don't listen to Chem Man. He says he is a teacher, but his answers are so unprofessional. He certainly doesn't sound like an educated person, much less a teacher.

The starting salary for teachers in New York City is $41,172. If you have credits beyond your Bachelors degree, you may even make more than that.

I don't know what the exact requirements are for preschool teachers, but you can find a lot of information on the web.

There are many paths you can take to obtaining your Masters degree and certification.

Good luck!

If you are serious about being a pre-school teacher you do not need a masters or a teaching certificate. Usually you would get your Early Childhood Education Degree its a 2yr college course. With your qualifications though you would have no problem getting a job. The pay SUCKS but we do it for the love of children. I have been an ECE for 6 yrs at the same daycare and I am still only making just under $30thou per yr Canadian. Like I said the children make it worth while :)

Fine Arts grad? Masters degree? Early Childhood Ed? No teaching certificate?
Try $0.00 Enjoy unemployment.

First, Early Childhood degrees are being issued at a 50:1 ratio. That is 50 graduates for each position.

Second, with such a surplus in degrees and graduates, why would anyone want to pay the extra for a Masters Degree?

Third, you have a Fine Arts degree and not an Education degree. That "concentration" is meaningless. Why would anyone trust someone in a school who hasn't had a course in education law?

Three strikes, your out. Go to Hobby Lobby and enjoy your new management position.

you wont get paid that much... my mom is an elementry teacher in cali and makes around 72,000 year with a masters. But she has also been teaching for like 20 years. Dont get a masters degree if you want to teach preschool. You dont even need a BA to teach preschool. You will probably make around 40,000
