My kitten is only a few months old and probly already knows her name, I know this because when I call her name, it gets her attention but when i call her for food or to be with me, she just stares at me for a second then starts licking herself. She usually just follows me when I usually want to be alone though. I call her name whenit's time for her to eat, but instead i have to tap her dish to have her come eat. What are ways for my cat to respond to my commands?

My cat is now 7 months old and she knows a few commands. She knows her name, she does not come when I call the other cat, just when her name is called so she definitely knows the difference.
To get her to come to me I use a kisskisskiss sound (rolling off tongue) I started by repeating the sound when i put the food down and when she was eating, in the beginning she had no clue what I was on about but she started connecting it to food, then I started doingbefore I put food down and even without food and she now comes to me whenever I make the sound.
She also knows the word No. This is the only command I use when I do not want her to do something, like climbing furniture, in the begionning I sometimes used a spray bottle with water to reinforce the command, make sure the water hits the cat at the same time you say No. Make sure you only use one command - the cat wont understand it if you say no one time and -You can't go there the next time.
I also use the words good girl when she has done something I am proud of, I started by reinforcing this by petting her at the same time
Good luck with training her, it will take a while for it to sink in but then they never forget. Even if they may still ignore you and your commands at times, but then they are cats after all... :-)

Hehehe it sounds like a typical cat. Some breeds you can train, others you can't. If it's hungry, it will come get its food. Just be patient, persistent and consistent, use the same commands each time. You can try tapping on the dish as well as saying the command nd it should get to the point where she knows either tapping on the dish or you saying "Puss, dinner" mean the same thing. Make sure to use the same command all the time or else it will get confused. Some cats will respond to non-verbal commands rather than verbal, give her time to understand what it is you want her to do.

at the initiating I actually have a kitten that is about an similar age as yours and he's not too outstanding both. He confident is lovable yet once you go with him to do a trick he merely gained't budge! besides the undeniable fact that a cat is a lot more effective complicated than a canines so i'd not assume it to do canines tricks like fetch. Cats many times do not keep tricks ok so i don't believe of you receives a lot executed. i could merely sense free that he help you do something with him and positioned aside coaching tricks!! he remains very youthful and likely likes to play arond slightly nonetheless. Wait till he receives older and into that lazy level in the previous you're attempting to tutor him tricks. he will be in a position to keep in recommendations them then!! desire I helped!!

one can not train a cat like one does a dog.
first thing is for you and the cat to bond, how are you calling the cat, that might be the problem.
rules of thumb for successfully bonding
when the cat follows you pick him up and cuddle him, talk to him, and the cat wil respond
bonding is so important with the cat.
when you call him, talk kindly and even a little baby talk will work.reward you cat when he responds or comes to you, good baby or good girl, that type of thing. let the cat sit on your lap when watching tv and or reading, they like closeness. sometimes you want to be alone and so does the cat, respect goes both ways. one can not expect the cat to only come when eating time is near, you must spend time with the cat and bonding wil happen good luck

Cats tend to be highly independent. They don't work well with commands but I have found that sounds can sometimes get them to do what you want them to do....just try using an electric can opener to open a can of tuna for a few days and you can call your cat with the can opener, just push it down and in seconds your kitty will be sliding across the kitchen floor to get to you.

I've trained my cats to be more obedient but it takes a lot of time and patience. .A professional animal trainer once told me that cats respond best to SUGGESTION (you show distract them from bad behavior by demonstrating/showing them without forcing, the desired behavior). Do not hit and yell, that just makes them afraid of you. Use a squirt bottle to stop bad behaviors,it works wonders when you want them to stop squabbling, getting on the counter, etc. When the cat does what you want then IMMEDIATELY shower them with praise. This teaches them that this (good) behavior gives them attention and praise, maybe a treat. That is how I train my cats and it does work. They just need to be shown, with love, how to behave. The earlier you teach them, the better. Be patient, that's the key.

Don't believe that cats will never respond. It does depend on the cat - my first cat never came to me when I called her. I now have 2 cats and they both respond...especially when I call them for their dinner. Just be patient and persistant. I started out having to tap the dish but now I just say "do you want some food" they both go running to the kitchen.
Good Luck!

Are you crazy? Cat's don't respond unless there is food involved. Cats have attitudes. I do the same when I have to round up my gray cat. I tap the can of food with a spoon and she comes running.

cats really do their own thing, they dont respond to 'authority' the only time my cat really comes when i call is when i call her inside to eat food. Dogs react to their names being called more than cats. You can keep trying to call her and get her to respond to commands, but i'm not sure if it will work. Good Luck! :)

Cats do not normally follow commands, but also if she is still a kitten, she won't know any better. Just be patient and keep working with her. Treats are always a positive reinforcement.
