I flew out of Newark (terminal A) on Friday evening. Got there 3 hrs early as per recommendation. But was thru in 20 minutes.

As a general rule of thumb, you will want to arrive at the airport about 3 hours early for a domestic flight and 4 hours early for an international flight. This way if there are delays in security or elsewhere you don't miss your flight.

Depends where you are.
In the UK airports are asking people to arrive around 3 hours before their flight - that is 1 hour earlier. Too many people arriving too early is the cause of part of the problme of airport overcrowding.

2 hours is the minimum though they have said u have 2 be atleast 1 and a half hours early. my best bet is leave at the earliest.

2 to 3 hours before your fight leave, and do not carry on any luggage whatsoever, bring only your passport, licence, and money, keep it light, and do not lock your luggage, they will only break the lock, and cause your luggage to not work properly. , don't worry flying is still the safest way to travel. I travel all the time, it's very safe still..
