this is more in resonse to previous posters...if a person has a mental illness, for them the behaviors or mood swings do seem normal...it is what they go through every day. likely, at some point one may ask themselves what is going on or am i normal, but as it continues they assume it is. a borderline thinks it is a fact of life to over react and be sensitive a lot and don't thhink they are too much so. a schizophrenic thinks it is normal that those little conversations with themselves take on a life of their own. a bipolar will think they are naturally a bouncy bubbly person when manic and have hit a rough patch in life when down. the list goes on...sometimes it takes someone else to point out something is wrong....

and it's a questionaire or verbal q/a test one takes to cement the diagnosis, a psychologist or psychiatrist can make an informed diagnosis without it though if one meets certain criteria.

*** THERE IS NO CURE FOR DEPRESSION, MANIC DEPRESSION, BI-POLAR DISORDER ETC! ***

IT IS TREATABLE LIKE DIABETES, HEART DISEASE & OTHER LIFE LONG ILLNESS THROUGH ONGOING MEDICAL TREATMENT, MEDICATIONS AND THERAPY!

To get PROPERLY diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder you must be evaluated by a PSYCHIATRIST!!!

http://www.depression-screening.org/

A regular Primary Care Physician CAN but a Psychiatrist is USED to dealing with the ins & outs of BiPolar. They know all about the medications used to treat depression.

BiPolar Disorder was called Manic Depression. YOU could also have PMDD - PreMenstrual Dysphoric Disorder which is very similar to BiPolar.

If you do in fact have Bi-Polar Disorder YOU need to be on BOTH an Antidepressant AND a Mood Stablizer.

Contact your Local Mental Health Clinic. They will do an evaluation.

Blood work is taken if & when you are on certain medications to see if they are affecting any of your other organs.

I would ask you friend why she thinks you are Bi polar. Then look up Bi polar on the Internet. If you feel that you fall into that behavior. Then go have a talk with your doctor or closest mental health clinic. It all depends on the degree of Bi polar. Most Bi polar people function very well in society. They use to call it manic depressive disorder. But there can be many degrees of bi polar.

There are a lot of ignorant people trying to practice medicine. A few things are pretty easy for the educated individual to reason, but something as serious and complicated as a mental or personality disorder can only be diagnosed by a Dr. I think your friend needs to stop practicing medicine. Having said that, if you can honestly evaluate yourself and see potential warning signs, your friend might just have your best intentions at heart by making the suggestion that you have a psych evaluation conducted. But to be so specific as to diagnose the needed test as being one for bipolar...back to my first response. They need to stop practicing medicine.

Bipolar is a lot more serious than mood swings. That can happen due to stress, financial difficulty or hormonal fluctuations. But it seems to be the chic label to carry around these days.

You need to get a psychiatric evaluation. You talk to a doctor. If you feel fine, if you never have any highs or lows, if you don't get depressed or anything, your friend is probably wrong.

People like to pretend they know what bipolar is all about. Most don't. I had a roommate once who would always blame everything on me being bipolar. That was not the problem. Basically, if I ever got mad at her, she figured that I must just be crazy.

Don't listen. If you feel fine, you have no reason to be concerned. The 'friend' in this situation is jumping to conclusions and making a hasty, amateur diagnosis. It sounds wrong to me.

My mom suffers from Bi-polar. it somewhat is totally problematic to diagnose somebody earlier their Nineteen Thirties, while you evaluate this is whilst indicators develop into the top and maximum major. it is not this "chuffed/unhappy" bullshit each and every physique is pointing out. You wade with the aid of ranges of mania and melancholy. My mom's mania includes unruly spending, she would be able to spend an entire verify in a count number of minutes, in line with possibility a intense sexchronic (idk, i do no longer ask her approximately her intercourse life, however the libido in a manic degree is for the duration of the roof), finished of skill for days without sound asleep (she would be able to stay unsleeping like 4 days ata time). Her melancholy is basically because it states, she gets very gloomy, she'll sleep for days, she would be able to no longer consume, and there are others besides. Why is it cool unexpectedly those sort of young babies are asserting they're bi-polar whilst they at the instant are not. you decide on drugs once you're bi-polar, it is not something you may say you have and assume each and every physique to have faith you.

Do you get depressed for a period of time, then do crazy things like spend money you don't have, stay up all night, work non stop for days, party for days on end and not show up to work, get super hyper/frantic?

I'd tell my friend to go get serious professional help, and not to come back till she's cured of her bipolar disorder, because you don't want her transferring all her problems on to your back.
