When Jesus was on the cross, he said, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" This is the one and only time there was a split between the first two persons of the Trinity (Father & Son). When Jesus became our sin, the Father was unable to look upon His son , hence he forsook Jesus.....till 3 days later when God resurrected Him. How does this set with your thinking? Its not in the Bible, its more like theology.

exactly, at that point Jesus became "sin". thereofore God couldn't be w/ Jesus anymore since sin and god cannot be together> I think that this shows the greatest love. Jesus being the ruler of the universe w/ eternal glory CHOSE to come to earth as a humble servant and be humiliated, beaten, spit at, crucified, for the sake of his infinite LOVE for us. None of us are worthy of having our king and creator be treated like Jesus did, but that shows how much god loves us> I'm honored and thankful>

I am a mother and to think of leaving my child to die would destroy me. To think the Father in heaven had to turn a deaf ear to His one and only Son when He cried out. When Jesus became the eternal sacrifice that took the sin of the world on Him, it would have been harder still for the Father to watch. I am thankful that He did it. If He would not have the heathen meaning me and anyone else that is not an Israelite, would not have had a chance to know Him. The Father knew from the beginning of time what was to happen and I am sure the Son did to. He was obedient to His Father.

I'm not sure He was unable to look upon His son as much as Jesus felt the separation from God at that moment. He was not in perfect communion with God for the first and only time. Therefore, He didn't feel God's presence.
Maybe it took three days so people would know for sure Jesus was dead?

Accually, the Trinity is a symbol of 3 in 1. Jesus was God and the Holy Spirit. I agree with the person that said that it was the flesh that was talking because right before He "died" He asked God to forgive us because we do not know what we do! That is the greatest love! And it is in the Bible. Just read a little closer. God bless you!

God had to turn away at that moment when Jesus took on the sin of the world, God cannot look upon sin. at that moment there was a separation between the father and son ( the first and only time) he only turned away from Jesus for that moment while he had our sins upon him, they were not separated 3 days. the word "forsake" doesn't mean "betray" like it does in today's English, it simply meant "separate"

Sadly, these words in the bible are not truly translated. As I have shared in other questions here the words eli, eli, lama sabacthani actually mean my God, my God, for this was I spared. They are a cry of triumph not a cry of defeat. Jesus Christ was actually fulfilling God's will by allowing himself to be crucified. He could have called on many legions of angels to free him from the cross at any time.
As for the trinity, there isn't one. Sorry but it isn't in the original scriptures. All trinity references either refer to other things or were added to the text at a later time. God is the father. Jesus Christ his son. They are two distintly seperate individuals and not one. They are referred to as being one but that is one in purpose and heart, not one in person. Otherwise god would be a schizphrenic with multiple personality disorder. He would also have to be a sadomasochist as he not only chose to be crucified, but to let himself hang there in pain. The truth is, God never forsook Jesus Christ. In those hours on the cross, God was right there with his son. He showed him in those final hours all that he had accomplished by what he was doing so Christ spoke those words of victory. This was God's revelation to Christ to bring his son comfort and set him at rest.

At that moment, the sins of the world were cast upon Jesus. The filth of sin is unbearable for God to look upon, that is why He sent His Son in the first place. If you were to present yourself to God without the blood of Christ covering your life, God would cast you out of His presence. That sin requires a ransom, if you dont accept Jesus' payment, then nothing will do.

This isn't in the Bible either but it's my belief and the belief of my church that God went to a remote corner of his universe because he couldn't bear to watch what his son was going thru. Jesus Christ did what he had to do for the redemption of humanity. He fulfilled all prophecy so that we might once again live as he does.

In fact Jesus said.
John 10:17 "For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again.
John 10:18 "No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father."
Did God resurrect Him or did He resurrect Himself according to the above verses.

Jesus took upon Himself the Sins of the world.
God, being Holy, could not look upon that sin.
That IS in the Bible.

Have a good night.
