Go to your bank, the one you have your savings account at and ask about accounts. I know a little about them myself. You have to open it with your mother or parent on the account because you are a minor. No, a savings account will not do, checking accoutns and savings accounts are different. You won't be asked to show ID because you are a minor, but your mom may have to show her ID. You have to sign a few papers and in about a week your debit card (AKA check card) should arrive in the mail and 3 days later a PIN (Personal Identification Number) number will arrive in the mail. You can activate and set your own PIN number at your bank anytime after you get the card. You can go to an ATM and activate your debit card after you have the PIN number the bank sends you in the mail. You cannot activate the card without a PIN number at the ATM. Your card will have your name on it, but your mom or whoever is on the account with you will have full ability to check your balance (how much you have in your account) at any time because she is on the account. I don't know what bank you use, but I know one bank company allows you to pick a debit card with a design (tiger eyes, Texas Flag, eagle, flower, moon landscape, etc.), so when you go in to set up the account, you may be asked to pick a design for your debit card, or the bank will send you a default one if no other design is available. Basically, your bank will let you know about everything they have to offer. The bank may even offer an Online PC Banking, where you can check your balance and see your account online anytime.

A check card automaticaly withdrawls the amount you purchase with it from your checking account.
Some banks allow you to open a checking account with your parents on it and maybe then you can get a checkcard. You have to be careful about keeping a balance on your checking account to make sure you don't use it to pay for more stuff then you have money for. Plus it can take days or weeks for a purchase to show up so you have to write down every time you use it and the amount to see how much you have left in your account, because the bank won't know until it makes it to the bank. A checkcard is not a credit card, you must have the money in the checking account that you are spending. Call a local Bank and ask them if they allow accounts for 14 years old with an parent on it and they usually will answer any questions you have even if you don't have an account with them.

Depends on your bank as to whether you need to have a checking account or not for a "debit card." I don't see much advantage for a 14 year old in having one if you don't know how to manage your money, but if you do then its probably a good idea. Usually when you use your "debit card" you're not asked for ID, but if you are, you could probably get away with your student ID. When you don't use your bank's ATM, you are charged fees for withdrawing, so that's something to also to consider since it will make your funds go faster if your bank isn't very recognized. When you go to stores to use it, they won't charge you for fees, it will act like a credit card but it will just deduct from your account.

Keep track of what you spend because if you don't have money and you spend something that's not there, you'll be charged for an overdraft if you don't have overdraft protection (ask your bank about the fees).

Overall, just ask your bank for more information because I'm sure I'm leaving out a lot of vital information you need to know. Another thing, since you are only 14, your mom will have to cosign the account since you are under 18.

Hope this helps.

you can not get one... not on your own... you have to have a parent on your account until you are 18... legal reasons...
like you cant be sued if you overdraw because your a minor...
no debit card from a savinga account. it has to be checking... school id is an acceptable form of id at a bank....and some other places but not everyone will accept a school id.. but a state id card is acceptable.. you can get those at the dmv.. they dont cost any more than a drivers license would, and usually they cost less....
but your mom or other related adult has to be primary on your account until you are of age...

you probably can only get a joint account with one of your parents. The bank took my school ID when i was 15. I needed two forms of ID...the used my social security card. I also had a savings account but my dad was on the account too. He was cool...he gave me his card to the accounts and i never activated it and he never looked at my statements.

Not sure what state you are from, but if you are looking to get a check card from a bank you should have a Valid state Id from the DMV. Have you looked into getting a prepaid visa?? works the same as a check card, but you use your own money.

you can't get a checking account which means no check card. No school ID's are not valid ID's and no you need a checking account to get a check card.

You can get a card but it usually cost like 2 dollars a month to have one. If you go to the DMV then you can just get an ID because they won't accept your school ID.

A checking account is needed for a debit card, but you'd better have income.
