Is XP working? If so, I suggest you create a "system restore" in case you mess up.

If you have the CDs, can't you uninstall XP, then install Win2000?

I learned the hard way to create a system restore immediately before installing a new program. Then, if it doesn't work out, you can go back to the previous setup.

If everything goes smoothly for a while, I create a new system restore with a note that the new program is working.

when you installed win xp over win 2000 did you pick the options to save the old system files so you can go back if not then the only way you can try now is to fromat the hard drive and start over if you dont want to do that coz of all your saved files then stick with windows xp what is the problem with windows xp is it a fake copy you have installed and you see the 30 Activate Windows XP icon pop up ?

Activate Windows XP from Floppy Diskette Backup

Circumstances arise where you'll need to reinstall Windows XP on your machine when no hardware changes have been made. Rather than go through the reactivation process, create a floppy disk to back up the activation status file. Once XP has been reinstalled the floppy can be used to restore the previous activation status.

Create the Activation Status Floppy Diskette
Navigate to %systemroot%\system32 folder.

Copy the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files to the floppy diskette.
Reinstall Windows XP
Reinstall XP in the normal manner. After the install is completed and the XP Out Of Box Experience (OOBE) appears where you'd normally activate the product, decline to activate and let the installation complete.
Activate the XP Reinstallation
Restart the computer and use the F8 key to bring up the Advanced Boot Options menu.
Select Minimal Safe Mode using Up and Down Arrow Keys and press Enter.
Navigate to %systemroot%\system32 folder.
Rename the existing wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files.
Using the floppy diskette, copy the previously backed up wpa.dbl and wpa.bak files to the %systemroot%\system32 folder.
Reboot the computer

You cannot install one Operating System on top of another! Your system, if it runs, will NEVER run correctly.

If you want to use both XP and 2000:
Disconnect your computer from the Internet.

Install 2000, select New Install, delete all partitions on the drive.
Create 20GB partition, and then a 15 GB partition.
format the 15 GB partition into NTFS and continue with 2000 installation.
Load motherboard drivers and printer. Install all WIN 2000 software.
Install WIN XP into the 20 GB partition
Format into NTFS, continue installation.

At boot up time, the system ,lets you chose the operating system. Always install the correct, matching software, do not install XP software if you have booted into 2000.

After Anti Virus and Firewall are installed and running in both Operating Systems, connect your modem to the computer.

Install your modem into each Operating System.

When your Internet is configured, go to Microsoft.com, auto updates, so the all security and fixes can be applied to your system.

You must do this two times, once for XP and once for 2000.

Format the remaining partition for your data. Create a My Documents folder in this partition and save you data into this folder.

If you only want one Operating System, Do all of the above.
Create a 20GB partition only.

There are many ways to apporach this problem. The first way is to do it scientifically. to do this you are going to need some hydrocloric acid dip the pc in it and that should uninstall windows. The next way to do it is the army's way. What you must do is go to your nearest army base and ask if you can use some of their C-4 or any high explosives. That should too. Or the next way is the low tech way. To do this you must go into your tool box or trunk of your car depends on where your hammer and tire iron is. You take those tools and that should uninstall windows. The final way is going to your fire department and using their high pressured hose to uninstall windows. The last way of doing it is kicking it shut. There is one other way. You take it up in a sky diving plane and that should uninstall windows. And there is one other way to uninstall windows and that is too nuke it. Take your pc out of the islands and drop a huge nuke on it. Problem solved.

format the hard drive that has the XP in it if you have both stored on different drives. I am not sure if 'computer restore' would help you out.
