what do you mean??? there was no Masjids before Islam and then when they built the first Masjid it was for prayer!!!

To provide a clean and pure place for the worship of the Islamic Deity...not to kill innocent people, if there are Mosques that do this it is completely against Islam. Of course there were prayers held in the Mosques. There may have been other special events held there on holidays and such, however, I'm not exactly sure.
