Was just a very charismatic man? Or perhaps him and his followers were all taking hallucinagetics? Or a combination of both? Since my teens I have discussed this issue with many people, and I got answers ranging from the obvious miracle worker to him smoking weed. What do you honestly think? Jesus was documented in history, not just in the bible. This isn't a bashing session, so please keep rude comments (ie burn in hell you Athiest) to yourself, thanks!

I was not calling him a druggie, sheesh, it is contemplative on the debates I had years ago. Ignorant. Try reading my sentences a little better. Thanks.

I was not asking questions on what he did, I was asking about what peoples views were on him. Please don't tell me to read the bible, or go to church, been there done that.

I did not agree with him smoking weed either. It was what one of the debaters had said. Again, read a little more closely.

An interesting question that I would not comment directly. I rather share the view point.
I see the world is very different time and place 2000 years ago. The thinking and mentality back then is simpler and straight forward.
If you are trying to judge or speculate a person or character based on some historical document, it may be hard. I see that documentation and translation can be biased and subjective.
Just like an example, a rumor is spreaded from one person to another, then another. At the end, it can be a big different picture from the beginning.

Interestingly enough, there is a verse in the bible says that there was nothing about Jesus that was, as you say "charismatic". That's not the word the bible uses of course....but I think people were drawn to Him because He loved them. He also healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, and fed large groups of people from a few loaves of bread and a couple fish. Actually, his teachings were very hard to listen to. Have you read the sermon on the mount in Matthew chapter 5? You read that and you go, my gosh, I can neve live up to this. So, Jesus wasn't calling people to do anything easy. "Charismatic" people usually make you feel good about whatever. Jesus said over and over, repent of your sins. He challenged people to make an honest assessment of what they were really like.

Can't comment on drugs as there no references in the bible to hallucinogens or cannabis. Some speculate the oils used to annoint were cannabis oil. However, it seems more likely to have been olive oil since olives grew and are still grown in that area of the word.
Now alcohol might have been used by Jesus and his followers. And alcohol is a drug. At the wedding in Cana, Jesus turned approximately 150 gallons of water into wine after all wine had been consumed and all at the party were "well drunk." Some claim the wine wasn't wine but 150 gallons of grape juice and that the term "well drunk" meant everyone at the wedding party had been drinking non-alcoholic grape juice for a quite a while. While I am not a biblical scholar, I do understand human nature and I find it hard to believe people at a party would consume large amounts of grape juice. I personally can't stomach more that a glass or two. However, I have observed that people will drink a lot of alcoholic wine. So, I suspect the juice was alcoholic but have no proof.
Jesus is documented in only in writing. Besides the bible, he is referenced in some ancient Jewish texts. However, some claim the references falsified when descriptions of Jesus were inserted in the texts hundreds of years after the time of Christ. We don't have any "hard" evidence that he existed. Others write of him, but Jesus did not write down anything. Some have suggested this is because Jesus was against laws and the tedious rituals of the Jews and writing down anything would have led to more laws and religious regulations which he was steadfastly against. You'd think our modern day preachers would understand this, but instead so called christian ministers translate laws of the old testament which Jesus is said to have claimed he came to replace. Seems to me you can't have it both ways. You either have to believe God, like Santa is watching to see if you are naughty or nice and if bad you are doomed to hell, or as Jerry Falwell said, doomed to die in the World Trade Center because our nation turned it's back on God and he (God) manifested his wrath upon us. Or you have to believe God is gentle and kind like Jesus and wants to forgive us and wants us to do the same to others, even terrorists.

Jesus is the Son of God. He didn't need weed. He wasn't charismatic. He healed the sick, the lame, the blind and raised the dead. He Himself raised from the tomb. The term charismatic did not exist, He was reviled by the Pharisees and the Sadducees. He taught love, compassion, truth, and do good to those that would abuse you. He taught the meek shall inherit the earth. Blessed are the peacemakers for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. There was nothing phony or false.

Ok. First let me say, good question.
Yes he was charismatic in the main sense of being very powerful and apt to change in a dynamic way. No he was not on hallucinagenics and neither were his followers. I myself have seen and done some of the miracles he did. And no, he did not sin. The bible is very clear on this fct. I have read it very carefully. He was a man in every sense but without sin. He was the second adam and he made up for the sin of adam by obediance to God. By not sinning where the first adam sinned. By the sin of Adam all men were in sin. By the obediance of Christ all men have the chance to be free of the consequences of Adams sin.
He did do miracles. They are all true. I have healed with the power of God, I have cast out devils with the power of God. It is available to do all these things today because of christ. But it requires beleiving and that comes by hearing the word of God rightly divided so that it interprets itself and gives a clear understanding. God gave power to Christ and Christ gave it to his followers to do many miracles, healings, cast out devils and raise the dead. There are many records today of such things still being done. If it was all a lie these things would not be so today. So my honest answer is that Jesus Christ was the son of God who God raised from the dead so all men could be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth that we can do all the things christ did.

My answer would be no. Have you read or hear of the book the Case for Christ? If not, it was by an atheist who turned Christian after trying to disprove Jesus.
There were just too many appearances to many different people after the Resurrection. Someone said if all the testimony for/about Christ was told end to end it would take 140 hours or something, straight.
But I honor your attempt at trying to inquire. For those not strong in faith these kind of questions can be raised. Once I heard that Jesus walking on water was because of ice. PLEASE!

Just food for thought, but you might find some interesting insights and idea on my blog at www.choosepeacenow.net Start with the Letter to Stephen Hawking and work your way up, or if you are really into it, start with the very first post. It is like a spiritual journal in a way about what is happening in the world, and includes some things about Christ that might be new to you.

Fact: People who smoke weed tend to romanticize weed as having been smoked by everyone from Jesus to Genghis Khan to Bishop Desmond TuTu. What's behind this question? Guilt and bong resin. In short, you're trying to feel okay with smoking pot by asking if Jesus smoked it. Nothing is good or bad, only thoughts which make it so. --The Bard

BURN IN HELL ATHEIST!
sorry i've always wanted to see why people like to say that
anyway I think jesus taught some good stuff, but a lot of it is the people of his time using him to get power by starting a new religion. the whole thing where if someone hits u u have to turn the other cheek doesnt work too well.

The answer to your question is in the Bible. I understand how it may be hard to believe all that the bible states because it seems humanly impossible , But then again Jesus was no mere human. There is no comparison.
