The Navy has a saying: Choose your rate, choose your fate.
What a 'good job' is will differ greatly from Sailor to Sailor. Some like to work with their hands, so would want to get into say the SeaBees or Engineering like Nuke MM. Others might be more comfy in a desk job, so would want any of the Admin Rates. Still others would rather play with electronics, so they would steer towards ET, CTx or FC.
His best bet is to take the Asvab to find out exactly what he qualifies for, then sit down with the recruiter and go over all the choices he has. Not every job will be available, so he would need a couple fo choices to fall backon. He can do research on places like Military.com and about.com to get some unbiased opinions as to what the rates actually entail.
This will be a choice that he would have to live with for as many as 6 years, so it is important that he ends up witha job that he will enjoy and excell at.

Your brother cannot simply "pick" a job. The military doesn't work that way. His career field with the Navy depends on how well he scored on the ASVAB (military entrance test). I am not sure if he has taken this test yet, but he will need to prepare. The higher he scores, the better his chances of securing a good job. If I was him, I would want a job working with the Navy radar system like AEGIS. That would be a cool job, or something technical. Best wishes to your brother.

That is The Navy's Job - - - they will gleefully give a person an evaluation and then make recomendations. A person who intends to make the NAVY a career or anything more three years should concentrate on Navigation & Engineering. Seeking skills to reenter to Civilian World go for Engineering or Medicine. Boats are Cool. Sail On - - - .

If he is smart, can put up with a lot of BS, and wants to guarantee he can get a job when he gets out the nuclear field in the navy is a great opportunity. It is very challenging, but can definitely guarantee a job after the military.

Not much information here. A good job can mean different thing to different people. I am in the aviation field and it is a good job for me. I enjoy being a mechanic and I love to fly. He needs to consider things that he likes, and base his decision on that.

If he's like genious smart he should try Intelligence.
Plus, if he takes intelligence he could get into the Naval Academy in a few years. It's one of the best universities in the world...behind West Point of course.
