I know this pain is not a "female" problem because I had a complete hysterectomy years ago. My abdomen is tender to the touch and even hurts when I bend over. It can't be acute appendicitis because it has happened off and on over the last 6 months or so. Could it be chronic appendicitis?

In addition, my back on that side hurts when I sit to the side in my recliner. It almost feels like a muscle is knotted up there, but my massage therapist says she doesn't feel that.

Last week I was having some cramping on that whole side.

Does Irritable Bowel Syndrome present itself this way?

I probably should have also said that I haven't had any change in bowel movements and that I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel about 15 years ago. Then I only hurt on my left side and it wasn't like this.

Very possibly could be your appendix. I'd get it checked out. I had to have mine removed, and to tell you the truth I thought I was constipated until I just couldn't take the pain anylonger. It hurt to sit, walk lay down, I could just never get comfortable.
Good Luck

Consult a doctor, preferably not the one who did the hysterectomy. Anything from an ectopic ovarian tumor to partial herniation can cause this; IBS is possible but seems unlikely. Much as I hate to suggest the possibility, they may have left a hemostat behind in the earlier operation. Abdominal x-rays might be in order, but that's for you and your Dr to decide.

You may also have kidney stones. They often cause pain in the back and in the abdomen. You should go to the Dr to be checked out. Some simple tests should help sort this out.
Hope you feel better soon!

It could be a hernia. Go see a doctor. If it is, you dont want it to become strangulated. It might also be a pinched nerve.

I would recommend you see a doctor. Also you can always seek a second opinion from another doctor.
