Married - 1 child, happy, healthy. Looking forward to my career in the Army. Jumped through all the hoops and went to MEPS where I was told after that I had tested hot for Cocaine. I do not use ANY drugs. I want to serve my country and eventually was looking to further my career in law enforcement or perhaps remain in the military. I do not know what to do - how do I clear myself that soome mistake or error in the test has occured?

Do the test again.. They must've made a mistake or switched reports or changed it cuz of a bribe

You can go to a local drug testing center, and they can do a confirmation test. It usually costs in the neighborhood of $35-$45. If you don't do it within a few days of the MEPS test, then it won't matter, as they can claim your body eliminated the drug over time.

If you get it done quickly, and you can demonstrate that it must have been a false positive, they may allow you to test again. The military has a zero tolerance policy on drug abuse, though. Once you are in, and show up positive for drugs, you can be referred to the local Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program (ADAPCP). If you pass that program, you will be retained. Failure will result in discharge.

This is why drug testing is wrong--false positives come up. You have no opportunity to clear your name, this will follow you for the rest of your life. The legal presumption of innocence actually had practical effect, it meant the government could not launch an investigation against you without probable cause that you were actually doing something illegal, but the courts have eliminated that presumption by allowing drug testing. I wonder how many thousands of people this happens to--careers ruined. But the politicians don't care, the masses love drug testing.

I know Red Bull Energy drinks and other energy drinks can make you test positive for drugs and so do some of the weight-loss pills id say pay attention to the ingredients to the products you are using. And if that is the case im sure they will give you another chance.

I recently failed a test for coke for my job, for one I threw a fit and contested it. Turned out they had not split the sample. I had also not signed the HIIPA consent form. After a week of me bit**ing I was given my job back after they admitted to errors. But it did not help my record or my personal feelings. It was basically "sorry, we screwed up. Contest it man. I have 3 boys and a marriage that was on the line, and of course my future.

There are a few things that can cause false positives for cocaine. They are:

Kidney infection (kidney disease)
Liver infection (liver disease)
Diabetes
Amoxicillin, tonic water

You might check to make sure you don't have any of these factors, and then ask them to at least retest.

Same thing happend to a friend of mine.. you need to request a retest.. and if you have to, take it to court.. There are some labs that commonly mismark the specimen.. That is what happend to my friend.. send me a message if you still need help, I can ask my friend what the procedures are to get this taken care of.

Ask for a GC-MS retest. It'll be expensive as sh!t for them, but it'll make it crystal clear you haven't used drugs.
