How do I lived down a false report about my reputation?... I don't even know who started it but it's been a thorn in my side for 2 decades... what's worse my older brother mentioned it to our mom as if it was a true statement! I have tried to get my brother to talk to me about this situation but he won't return my calls .... nearly 2 months has passed and he is still avoiding me.
I explained things to mom and she seems to understand but it just
rattles me to have this bad report still following me after all this time.

My brother didn't know about it for 20 years ...he was told about it several months ago and he's used this to cause me grief.... I don't want to change his mind --- I'd like to know who told him....

just be confident in what you know, which is the truth.you cant help what everyone thinks, all you can do is focus on making yourself better everyday.just tell them once that its not true and you cant spend the rest of your life trying to get them to understand this.once you do this, they'll come around.just be the person that you were called to be,and everything will work out fine my sister.

Give it time. Maybe your bro is hurting now. I moved from Bambay after closing a sucessful business, to Bangalore, one of the reasons for the bitterness with my brothers was someone spreading rumors about me and my wife, in 1999. Another convenient cause that came in at the same time was labor problems at my business.
Things have cooled down now, and we are back to talking terms, the only difference being that I and my family now live in another city

You can't do anything to change what has already happened. Live a good life and do good things for others. If you and God know the truth nothing else matters. Don't try to change your brother's mind about what he thinks he knows, just treat him as nicely as you want him to treat you.

Don't acknowledge it or give it any attention whatsoever. Live your life with the dignity of knowing within yourself that this is false and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. If it does come up, correct them, but do not bring it up and do not fight over it. Becoming defensive only makes it look like you have something to hide.

The truth only matters to you and God. Stop worrying about it. Laugh it off. I dont' know why your brother would mention that to your mother after 20 yrs. In another 20 yrs it won't even matter! God bless you!

Sometimes family are the most hurtful. Just forgive yourself for whatever and live like you always have. Act as if nothing happened and pray about it. People's opinions and attitudes change from day to day.
