lol our Shi-Tzu goes CRAZY if someone comes to the door. I suppose you could try training classes. However you have to be careful when telling your dog NO or punishing them for barking at noises, strangers (to them) , etc.....because you want your dog to bark if a prowler comes around......it's one of those where you don't want them to bark certain times but still be the "guard dog".....

Your little Pom is just doing his job, guarding his home and keeping watch over his people.
If the barking is becoming excessive, you can try a spray collar recommended by the humane society here in Canada, it's called "Spray Commander". The dog wears a small collar and battery operated receiver. When the dog barks, the receiver sends a blast of citronella-scented spray up into the dog's facial area. It's harmless when used as directed and many of our customers are completely satisfied with it. Since the spray redirects the dogs' attention, the barking stops and you then praise the dog like crazy for not barking.
We only recommend use of this collar when there are extreme situations with relentless or constant barking. In the case of your dog, I think he would see this treatment as a punishment for doing what comes naturally for him. Be thankful he's committed to you and your family!
Best wishes

Its in a dogs nature to bark to warn its pack (you and the fam.)
They see it as defending their territory from invaders.
Its would probably cost you a fortune to train it thusly. So.............I guess my answer would have to be no. oops!

most small dogs are very nervous and also dogs like people have vocal chords that need exercise. i think that you need to tell your parents to get over themselves or move the poor pooch to another room.
