Ok, so last night I turned off all of the lights & my went to lay down on the futon in our living room. For some reason, we decided to sleep there instead of our bedroom. Anyway, I was laying there with my eyes closed for maybe 3-5 minutes (not even close to falling asleep), and all of a sudden with my eyes closed I see flashing lights, and then I open my eyes & wake up my husband & he saw it too & jumped out of bed. The light in our hallway was flickering/flashing like crazy for a few seconds at least, because I had time to put on my glasses & turn on the kitchen light. My husband ran to this light after it turned on by itself, and was going to turn the light on, but he noticed the switch was up now, which neither of us could have done since we were 8-10 feet away on the futon. I was just wondering if anyone could possibly give some kindof logical reason for this, because we can't come up with anything that would explain everything. We were really freaked out by this episode.

could have been that the switch wasn't fully in the down position, when the switch is in the middle voltage can jump the contacts and cause the light to flicker or flash the heat created in the switch could cause the switch to either go up or down depending on the path of least resistance

Maybe the light switch in the hall was never turned off but the bulb was a little loose. Something caused it to move just enough to get electricity going to it again (maybe a tiny earthquake that you couldn't feel) and that's why it was flickering. There also could have been a short in the wiring which made it look like the light was turned off when it was actually in the on position but wasn't getting power...then short caused it to flicker (mouse chewing on the wires? I don't know how shorts can act I'm not an electrician)

If that doesn't sound feasible, try asking here: http://forums.randi.org/
It's a forum started by James Randi, the guy who is offering a one million dollar paranormal challenge. Someone there should have a good logical explanation for what happened.

Sounds like the switch didn't get flipped down all the way to begin with. That would explain the flickering as the switch kinda hovered between on and off and finally it ended up flipped up.

It really doesn't sound particularly remarkable or supernatural and I've lived in a haunted house. Listen to the electrician.

Your "rational mind" (ego) always looks to "logic". It does this to keep you away from finding out the truth that lives beneath the physical. This is not to say that there is not a "logical" explanation, but that there is more to "life" than we know.

There is a reason you and your husband slept in the living room. In my view, as a spiritual teacher, you needed to experience what you experienced. On a deeper level, you both chose to have that experience, and for your own reasons.

You were freaked out because of the mindset that only the physical can be trusted, and all else is scary, and considered weird.

"Paranormal" is an unfortunate term, as it tends to give images of strange things that cannot be explained. What the world considers strange is actually just the reverse. It is our nature, trying to show us who and what we actually are, underneath this physicality.

I would say that was pretty strange, & out there, to say the least, but there could have been a death in the house you live in, & it could have been a lost enity. If this happens again, I definately would first, get the electrical system checked out ,to make sure it isn't that, & if that checks out ok, then you need to contact someone who deals in the,Paranormal Issues.

Yes, it can be a para-normal experience, or merely faulty wiring. I have the same thing happening to me in my hall-way and stair-well...its an old house, perhaps harboring an old spirit. If you hear a crackling sound and smell smoke the next time it happens...call for a fire truck; if not, don't worry about it.

You probably flipped the switch half way which caused a short circuit to sputter across the switch, the sporadic pulse then caused the switch to flip down the rest of the way.

Wow...sounds scary but being that I believe in the paranormal...i would wait to see if it happens again. if so You could contact A paranormal society in your area to come and do an investigation. Have candles or flashlight available incase its an electrical problem. and stay safe.

It sounds like a spirit in your house. Do you have any friends or acquaintances that passed away lately? Or even someone that passed away some time ago that you still think about frequently? It may be someone you knew and loved who is reminding you that they are still around and that you don't need to feel alone. I don't think it was necessarily a mal-intented spirit. But only you can decide that for sure. :-)

Blessings and Light!

I hope you don't have a lease. Sounds paranormal to me. I would be moving out as of yesterday. If it is not paranormal better get the fire alarms in working condition due to an electrical fire. Get renters insurance. Either way I would be outta here.
