I own alot of cats and have a mother cat that recently gave birth to 6 healthy kittens. My question is will after keeping previous litters of her kittens, will she hate me and feel emptiness from loss, if I give her now weined kittens to a no kill shelter? Maybe I shouldn't care but I feel that if I do this, she will change be
different.... This is my worry, I would rather raise and kittens than hurt her......
If any one has givin kittens from mother cats they have owned , Please tell me how she might react to losing her litter........ Thank You if you respond.......

she will be sad for a day or two, well not sad, more confused. And she may try to mother other things, like stuffed animals or any other pet in the home. But after a couple days she will, like all mothers when their children leave, come to the understanding that her kittens are grown now and had to go.

There was only once that I had a mother cat react badly, and that was because my dad took the kittens to a shelter when I was on vacation and they were only about 6 weeks. She went around the house making the most horrific cat screams I ever heard looking for them. But that too only lasted about a week, then she was back to her old self again.

Animals adjust to this rather quickly. Usually they will chase the kittens away when they feel they are old enough to take care of themselves. Since only about 14 per cent of animals stay in their original homes God must surely have given them the ability to adjust to new situations more quickly than we humans do.

I have a question? Why do you not spay the mother cat? Who got her pergnant? Do you let her outside? With around 11 million cats and dogs being killed in the country every year because on one wants them, and that includes adorable puppies and kittens. For every kitten you give to a shelter that is adopted another will be one put down somewhere because you have taken a home that might have been his.

First, If an animal is spayed or neutered by the time it is around a year old it is better for it's health. Second, It is not easy to have babies, it is painful so why subject her to it? If you let her out you are also putting her at risk to diseases from roaming cats. If you don't let her out and her offspring are getting her pregnant that can culminate in future litters being born with severe problems from inbreeding.

You sound like a very caring person, so please think about having her spayed, and also the other cats you have. It really is very important.

I've gone through this similar problem before. It's always best that the mother cat be present to see where you are putting her babies. She may feel a bit sad for a few days or even a week or two, but then the sadness will leave. Do your female cat a favor and get her fixed. Having being pregnant and giving birth so many times is not healthy for her and her bodies' needs and maintenance of health.

If you have a lot of cats, you should know the answer to this question.

Anyhow, if the kittens have been properly weaned (8 weeks old) the mom will welcome the relief of not having the kittens. In the wild, don't most animal babies eventually leave the mom, and the mom just does what mother nature intended her to do, get healthy and next heat, mate again.

Must be great, no regrets, no "mom can I borrow the car", "mom tuition is due" huh?

When my mother cat had kittens we put an add in the paper and gave them away. For a couple of days she looked around the house for them but after that she was fine and back to normal.

A mother cat will feel some sadness after the kittens leave, but it will only last a day or so. Sounds like this cat has had many kittens. Please have her spayed.

When a mother animal weans her offspring she feels her job is done and gets on with her life. Animals live in the present and don't form the attachments that humans, some monkeys and other primates do.

IMO she will not grieve nor suffer when her kittens are gone.

As a former breeder of Persians, I can tell you that giving kittens away will not bother the mom. You need to let her see you do it so she doesn't go looking for them, but she will forget all about it the next day as she cares for the others.

Why not get her spayed though and save the heartache for you?

She will spend a bit of time searching for them, perhaps a day or two, and then go back to reproducing right on schedule as though nothing untoward had happened. Been there....done that.
Don't give animals the stature of human beings!

WHY DIDN'T YOU SPAY HER??? THEN YOU WOULDN'T BE ASKING THIS QUESTION!!! ALL YOU'RE DOING IS GIVING THEM ALL TO A NO KILL SHELTER WHERE THEY WILL OBVIOUSLY BE HOMELESS!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE OVERPOPULATION OF UNWANTED CATS/KITTENS IN THIS COUNTRY!!!! WE ALL APPRECIATE IT!!!!

oh, and she won't care, at least not after a few days!
