Because it's easy to criticize something you don't understand and most people don't go to the trouble of learning the truth before they speak. Just because you don't agree with someone else's beliefs doesn't mean you shouldn't respect them for practicing their own rights of free agency.

because monotheistic religions are based on an implicit promise that following that religion gains you rewards in the afterlife. What would be the point of conforming to a set of beliefs if another group had a similar franchise on entry into heaven? Therefore, all other religions must be false.
It's faulty logic at best but many people need to believe they'll be rewarded somewhere down the line or else they'd have to face the fact that they lead miserable lives with nothing to look forward to when they die.

Fear of other ideas which leads to ignorance which in turn leads to intolerance. This leads to hate and a lack of respect. Many people are taught to believe a certain way. Societal pressures and communal pressures also contribute. The media doesn't help either.

Ignorance, fear, and insecurity. And they were also taught to be that way.
I personally don't think it's important to respect other religions so much as it is to respect a person's right to follow their own free will and practice that religion.

People that don't respect a person's opinion do not respect people that are different than them at all.

What do you mean?
There are SDA's and Jews. Just because I don't go to synagogue with the Jews, doesn't mean that I do not respect their beliefs about the Sabbath. I don't call in the Sabbath time and I talk about what the holy days mean to them.
Moslems pray at specific times. I don't stop that.

I would like to know the answer to this also..It seems to me they lack the basic knowledge of being a good person.. They seem to thrive on being as rude and stupid as they can ...if they only put so much effort into being polite & respectful
