The idea of fade to black and some bug that talks like and looks like Woody Allen making a meal of me is freaky. Whats freakier is people who know NOTHING at all about afterlife declaring it isnt there...isnt that telling us something ? isnt it literally insane to trust the words of a bug lover than the Son of God who rose from the dead and made billions of miracles since then ? No atheist has died and come back and said " hey...theres only bug food 401K plans down there.." but what about the guy who went and returned ? Who should I trust ??? ummmmmmmmmmm...gee this is a toughie.....

Belief in an afterlife is a personal thing, some people arent sure, some don't believe and others have had proof of an afterlife, some will have blind faith. Everyone is different so why label people who don't want to be labelled. Just because a person isnt involved in an organised religion, doesnt mean they dont have their own personal faith in something. If religious people cant respect that, then they shouldnt expect respect back. It's society who has a need to label people. You can put 6 christians in front of me and they will all have a different view of their religion and beliefs, atheists don't come in identical multipacks either.

How would an atheist come back and return from death if death is the end????? It makes absolutely no sense. I think you have a strong fear of death and are trying to deal with it by a) adopting a thought system that saves you from it; and b) trying to dismiss and attack the thought systems (and its adherents) that contradict it. Instead of doing that, just go for a direct experience where you can KNOW instead of believing. Belief can be helpful but the experience is the only thing that will really make you KNOW. I read about people who have had the experience in '3 Pilllars of Zen' and Immense Joy was theirs for the rest of their lives. And Zen doesn't have to be the context for the experience, christianity can be used (e.g. Meister Eckhart, St John of the Cross both had the experience).

The Bible was compiled 300 years after Jesus' death. The Word has been changed and diluted (by the Council of Nicea, King James, and every New Protestant Church after them). So the account of Jesus rising may or may not be real (it depends on faith). Many say that the 'proof' in the Bible is not enough. Did you hear about the old guy that sued a Catholic Priest in Italy for fraud? He claimed he had 'proof' that the stories attributed to Jesus were actually the work of another man (his case was thrown out, but is now eligible for review in the International Courts). So an Atheist that doesn't believe in a Higher Power wouldn't believe in the Bible; so the 'proof' in the Bible wouldn't be valid for them. Miracles happen, but miracles are also faked by False Prophets...... it is hard to tell which is which (again, all your proof falls on faith). Now, let's say Jesus did rise. Then JESUS knows about the afterlife. Have you been? No? You have FAITH that Jesus rose. Atheists don't have this faith. Now, neither do alot of devout Religious people (being NonChristians and all), but most still believe in an afterlife (or reincarnation). Now, it's not fair for you to call Atheists "freaky" or "insane". I'd defend you if they called you those names (and many of them do). Christ was one for tolerance and teaching. Perhaps instead of worrying about the afterlife, you could spend more time talking to Atheists. Perhaps a better understanding of their belief system (yes they are bug food when they die, but their conciousness is gone, so what do they care? It's all a natural part of Birth and Death. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, sound familiar?), would encourage them to listen to your side of things. Perhaps a willingness on your part will open their hearts to the Truth. Food for Thought. God Bless.

So what are you saying -- you believe in God because you are afraid of death? Is that a reason that will please your God? I doubt it.

What if there is a God -- but there is no afterlife?

What if there is an afterlife -- but there is no God?

What if there is a God and an Afterlife -- but God doesn't use "Belief in God" as a criteria for getting in. What if he uses "Lives life fearlessly" as a criteria?

I don't know if there is a God or an Afterlife -- so I try to live this life as well as I can.

As for Jesus coming back from the dead -- I can't trust those rumors. After all, there have been more "confirmed sightings" of Elvis after his death than there have been of Jesus. Does this mean that I should be eating peanut butter and banana sandwiches?

Actually, if you do consider it for a moment, people have died and come back. A chemical called ketamine was proven to cause those "afterlife" visions, but there have been some people who were dead for several minutes and seen nothing. You cannot dismiss this. Where is your proof that Jesus actually rose from the dead, a sworn statement from god?

What ARE you talking about? Bug that looks/talks like Woody Allen? Are you referring to the movie Antz? Sweetie pie, I hate to break it to you, but I don't think any religion, non-religion, or philosophy in the world - atheist, agnostic, Buddhist, Christian, Jew, Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Druid, or what-have-you - thinks we are going to be eaten after death by a neurotic 3-D computer-animated ant. Come ON, now. A little seriousness here might indicate a respectful appreciation for another's point of view, and be the basis for a mature debate.

"Billions of miracles"!?

WOW! Are you SURE you are not overexaggerating? :)

Fear, can be a very powerful tool, especially when used by the wrong hands. Man has used it's power for many millennia, but hardly for the right reasons.
Don't be afraid, Annie. Not of anything, but fear itself.
Not even of being wrong, sometimes.

Y'know, I like the thought my body will be helping to nourish those poor worms and bugs. They DO look hungry and in need of me!
I can't see much wrong in it, really. We came from the earth, we return to the earth.
Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best.

I'm wondering why you didn't chat about your soul?

;)

So, do you know about the afterlife? Have you been there? Do you trust that Jesus rose from the dead, or did you have a personal conversation with him over a cup of coffee? Each person has their own beliefs, and each person is entitled to them. Please don't force your opinions on other people. I won't mock your beliefs anymore if you'll stop mocking mine.

And what's this Woody Allen nonsense? I don't know what the heck you're talking about.

The reasons you cite are part of the primary reason for the creation of religion ... to make people feel secure in facing the inevitability of death.

And there's nothing to be ashamed of as part of the "circle of life". Without the deaths of others before us ... and their being consumed by worms ... and those worms being consumed by other creatures ... we couldn't live. Death is an essential part of the process.
