I've actually asked this question a few times before, but I still have lingering doubts on the crate training. My biggest concern has been crating my puppy overnight. Will she be able to hold it through the night? Since we've had her (two weeks), she pees and pooping while we're asleep, but at least she's paper trained and doesn't eat it.

Tonight, I am going to crate her in my room. I don't yet recognize her "cry" for needing to go to the bathroom, I'm afraid I'll just sleep through it. I took her out just now and she peed but not pooped. I'm concerned about the poop, she pooped after dinner, but usually needs to go one more time in the middle of the night.

Can she hold it until morning? Will I have to set my alarm for 3ish to take her out? Thank you for all the help in advance.

What's the difference between crying to go potty and crying to get out of the crate for fun?

If you crate her she will be okay overnight. If you crate her overnight and she has to go, she will find a section of the crate to use. Get a good nights sleep.

Hi. I've never believed in crating any dog. Since your dog is at least paper trained, why don't you try a baby gate in your kitchen doorway instead? As the dog gets older, you will know when she has to go out. I think it would be better if you had her learn to follow Your schedule instead of making one of her own. As far as the difference in her crying, I'm not sure. I would think that if shes pacing while she cries, it would be to go out. If she's just sitting quietly and crying that would be for attention.

She probably wont hold it. Worst comes to worse she will do it in the crate she is still a baby. Put a pad in the crate. Dogs don't like using the bathroom in it but accidents happen.

Its ok to keep her in her crate at night. Its a good idea to keep her in your room so when she crys take her outside immediately. give her lots of praise for doing her job outside.Good luck.

she should be fine..as long as the crate isnt TOO BIG...
(like she can hang out on one side..and "go" on the other..thats a sign of being too big)

she will be fine overnight...use some puppy pee pads in it..

AT THREE MONTHS SHE WILL BE ABLE TO HOLD IT TILL LIKE 6AM IF SHE WENT BEFORE BED. AS THEY AGE THEY POO FARTHER AND FARTHER AWAY FROM THE TIME THEY EAT. TRY NOT FEEDING AFTER 6 AND ALL POOING SHOULD BE DONE BY BED TIME. AND SHE WILL PEE AS SOON AS HER EYES OPEN SO WHAT EVER SOUND YOU HEAR ITS THE I GOTTA PEE SOUND. THEN FEED AND GO OUT TO POO AFTER BREAKFAST. EVEN IF SHE HAS TO POO AT NIGHT ONCE YOU START CRATING REGULARLY SHE WILL WHINE TO GO OUT. I TAUGHT MY DOGS WHO ARE CREATED AT NIGHT THAT ANY SOUND WOULD RESULT IN BEING TAKEN OUT TO PEE. THEY SOON GOT ITS NOT FUN B/C THEY ARE TIRED AND I WONT TALK TO THEM CEPT TO SAY PEE PEE OUTSIDE.AND bed LIGHT OUT.NO FUSS.ALWAYS STICK TO YOUR ROUTINE.
