I don't think so. Maybe cars offend me because they hurt the atomsphere so we shouldn't drive cars here. Do you know how many Hindu people are offended by you eating beef? Do you care? Maybe I'm offended by heterosexual marriages because I abstain (hypothetically).
On top of that no one is forcing you to get married to some one of the same sex. And no one would force a preacher who didn't like it to get them married, that would be oppression of religion, which sucks.
Some people say it doesn't bring anything to society. Do Cheetos bring anything to society? What? Not only do they not contribute to society, they can make you obese in excess!? We have to make Cheetos illegal. Think things through here. And to be honest the world is already overpopulated and we can't just make new land, people have to live somewhere on Earth at least for the nest many 100 years.
I won't even get into seperation of Church and State, not official enough and is too much of a gray area.

texnbballchik12 no I don't really think so. I could care less what it says on my money and no one has to say the under God part. I don't want religious oppression at all, and it's not like that is going to convert anyone so I'm not worried about it.

To buttercup, the classical family may work, even though lately it seems to have a hard time sticking together. But a I would never consider my own comfort in the way society is to impede other peoples' happiness. Plus I don't think it will hurt anything. And as for the where does it stop argument I'm pretty confident that humans will always have the sense to see it isn't right to marry a person and an animal that has no idea what is happening. But I guess as an atheist I'm just not too worried about the holiness of marriage so I could be slightly biased.

I agree with you 100%. I don't understand why people have to be in everyone elses business. Live and let live. If you don't like gay marriage, don't be in one.
And to Dave Stewart... you don't have to get married in a church. You can get married in a courthouse. There are many non Christians that get married too. So are you saying that only Christians should be allowed to marry and have to marry in a church...under God?
Have you never heard of separation of church and state....
By the way, I am a Christian, I just believe that God would want me to love and respect my fellow man/woman.. If gay marriage is wrong, Fine, let gays answer to God for it when they die.. Its not up to you to judge..He didn't give you that authority.

For me, it's not personally being offended. It's outlined quite
clearly in the Bible that it is abominable to God, so if you're
a Christian then it's just not right or moral. We were wonderfully
created man and woman and that's the way life is supposed to
be but even in Bible times, men had affection for other men and
God destroyed them and their towns (Sodom & Ghamorrah).
The traditional family has worked great for centuries and I don't
see why we should let a small percentage of the population try
to change what constitutes a "family". Next it will be 3-adult
families, then maybe 4, then animal/man and who knows what
people will conjure up next. Children need a father and a mother
and homosexual marriages will destroy that concept. If they want
to sin, no one stops them from living together...but marrige is
another stumbling block to righteousness.

1 Corinthians 6: 9 & 10
9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Marriage is a Holy union of a man and a woman, and the Bible says that homosexuality is wrong. The union of marriage shouldn't be fooled around with, and homosexuality goes against all morals. We are all puzzle pieces, an innie goes with an outie, it just doesn't work any other way.

Personally offended a reason? No. However the best reason of course is that it is considered an "abomination" by God. In other words, He did not intend men/men and women/women together sexually. So, it is offending God...and that's enough for me. Now a reality check for you; the only reason why gays want to marry is to debase marriage and get at Christians. They can easily live together and still fight for the right of a "common law marriage". But no, they want to be "married" in every sense of the heterosexual word and that screams making trouble to me.

I am not offended by Homosexuals... but I do believe that their lifestyle is immoral...
I don't even care if they want to live their lifestyle... it is their choice...
but do not ask ME to pay for it... when to me the lifestyle is an abomination...
how would I pay for it? the same way we pay for married people... added deductions on taxes, days off when children are sick.. or when spouse is sick.... baby leave... paternity leave.. etc... there are lots of ways that society pays for married couples ... and I think that is good... it helps our country grow and prosper...
they can live their lifestyle.. but don't ask me to give it blessings.

I think of gay marriage like I do for heterosexuals. It makes your union legal in the eyes of the law. It makes buying a home, sharing credit, being notified in case of emergency as next of kin. What do those things have to do with who you sleep with?
When heterosexuals go to the court house and get married their is no God and no religion involved....it is 2 people entering into a legal contract. It's as simply as that.

I agree. I cannot ever see gay marriage staying banned for long, eventually people will view homophobics as this generation views racists. It will cease to be appropriate to hate people you don't know because you are personally offended by their choices. No one would admit to being a bigot, and yet being homophobic makes you one.
