Have everyone write some good advice to keep the marriage strong on a card. When the bride opens gifts one card will be read before next gift is opened this will make conversations come out.

I don't really think games are necessary either. I'd rather sit around and visit and eat a little something and watch the bride-to-be open her gifts. I still kind of like to make the hat out of ribbons from the gifts, though. If you really need a game, and I'm not sure you'll like this, but make up a quiz about the bride--birthday, favorite food, favorite actor, etc.

Perhaps a good start would be to get each guest to tell 2 truths and 1 lie about the bride to be to the rest of the group, with the rest of the group guessing the lie. This should break the ice with the common theme of the bride to be?
If this is not your thing, another conversation starter is that everyone should share their most memorable story of them and the bride to be, this again will ease any tensions.

Invite my friend Rhonda! I gave my daughter a personal shower with my closest friends. With instructions that we weren't to dress up, it was a come as you are party. We weren't going to have tea and cakes, we weren't playing those stupid games, or doing things to embarrass ourselves. Well, we had a great time, but we did get embarrass, I had made my daughter a goody basket for her and fiance. It had some "fun" stuff in it. Glow in the dark, love dices, and eatable underwear. I didn't not put the real risky things you can buy. But, I also put 2 wine goblets, and a bottle of wine, with candles, chocolates, bubble baths, then of course, I put spray starch, a measuring tape, aspirins, vaseline,
magnifing glass, handcuffs, red pepper(to spice things up) We had the best time with the basket, and the girls had the best time wondering why I put spray starch in there --to stiffen things up!
I forgot all the stuff I put in it, but it was clean enough for all people that was there, believe it was ice breaker enough.
We also had a questions to answer like: what do when you Mother in law is acting like an outlaw, we just laughed and talked, no pressure was put on anybody to answer, but I think everyone ended up putting their opinions and solutions. My daughter loved it, she said it was a nice break from the dressed-up shower that her Church gave her. She came in her shorts and t-shirt, I wore my pjs...honestly, I had more compliments on her shower, and was asked if they could borrow my basket idea and some of my questions. I might not help you at all for this shower, but I high recommend doing this with the girls, even just for a girl's night out. Good luck with yours! God bless us all...........

When I threw mt best friends shower we used a icebreaker game where we placed a name tag on everyones back on the tag was the name of a big name star of the screen and stage. The person didn't know who was on their tag so they had to ask questions about them. It lasted about twenty minutes and by then everbody was chatting away.

Why don't you produce a slideshow with pictures of the bride and groom with family or something. People will get talking about that.

A nice touch is to have name tags with the person's name and stating how they know the bride.
That always starts conversations-- and it helps people put names and faces together.

You shouldn't need any games for adults to talk to each other. I am assuming at least some of these people know each other and that they are not all social misfits. Just let people stir up their own conversations. Shower games are always stupid!

Have the hostess welcome everyone to her home, then ask each person to introduce themselves and tell what their connection is to the bride, and then have the guests serve themselves the refreshments. That will create a casual atmosphere, and people will start to mingle and talk.
