I am a christian and was brought up to believe in the bible and that there is no such thing as reincarnation or past life regresstion, but I wonder why I have memories of lives Of other times. Can any one give me any insite on this and what might it mean? And how can I find out for sure if this is real or not.

I think that I have found an answer for the reincarnation question... but it is just my thoughts on the subject so it could be way off...

OK... I believe that we ALL are spirit children of God the Heavenly Father...

As His spirit children we lived with him in Heaven...

We were there when the earth was created for US to get a Physical body just like Heavenly Father has...

As spirit children we observed things happening here on earth throughout history and perhaps some of us concentrated heavily on certain figures in history that we found interesting... perhaps they were Spirit Friends that we had and we knew their spirit and followed them...

When we are born we lose the memory of things that we knew from Heaven... (we passed through a veil of some kind to remove our memory)... and we have to relearn everything... but... sometimes we dream or remember things that happened... sometimes the Holy Spirit brings things that happened there to our rememberance when we need it for some special reason...

I believe this is how it happens... and why some people remember past lives (which are not really thier own but were observed heavily)... and how so many people have the SAME memories of people like Ghengis Khan (or whoever)...

Oh.. one more thing... why would we need to be reincarnated when we are going to be resurrected? why would we need two... or 100 bodies?

Well, I have heard of Reincarnation and a lot about it is very appealing to me but in other ways I think it is a cop out. Read the Sleeping Prophet. It is the story of Edgar Cayce. He taught that reincarnation is real and said that at one time it was accepted by the early Christians but later was expurgated from Church teachings by the Nicene Council (not sure of the spelling). As for past life regresstion, I think you are spelling that incorrectly but even if you meant past life regression, I'm still not sure what you mean. Unless you are referring to when someone get hypnotized and starts remembering things that happen to him or her in another life. They say that belief is very acceptable in Indian culture and that Indian Children can usually remember people or events from past lives. I would suggest that you go to the library and do some reading. If you yourself are having or think you are having memories of other lives, my advice would be to trust those feelings. I really wouldn't worry what the Bible or the church has to say on those matters.

What I am about to share is not popular amont the Christian community. Jesus said that anyone who gave up land, cattle, wives, children, etc, for his sake, and for the kingdom of heaven, in this life, would receive many times over (multiplied) lands, cattle, wives, children, in the next life. Yet in another place, he said in heaven they (we, us) do not marry or are given in marriage. How can someone get wives in heaven if they do not marry? Those wives must be in a "next life" that is not in heaven. Right? Again Jesus asked his disciples one day, "Who do the people say I am"? They replied, "Some say Moses, some say Elijah or one of the prophets. Some say John the Baptist". All those men had died before Jesus asked this question. Everyone knows the story from here. But please notice that Jesus did not scold them for believing that Moses, Elijah, or anyone else can come back as another human being. He did not scream, "Sinners! You will all go to hell for believing in reincarnation! " as many Christians would do today. He simply went on with his point. Reincarnation was a widely accepted teaching at the time. Seventy or Eighty years on this planet is not enough to learn about life's meaning. Do we go to heaven or hell based on our decisions in life? For eternity? We are born with no knowledge. We are taught by others for the first half of our life with no control over what we learn. Are we responsible to know everything? Personally, I need more than one lifetime to figure it out. Have you ever looked into a baby's eyes and known that the person inside is an old soul? God is the great recycler. Everything around us is recycled. Look at rain, the seasons, the air, even the water and minerals in our bodies are recycled. Maybe the water in your body was in Jesus, or the Buddha, or a sleek and beautiful Bengal Tiger. Who knows? If God recycles everything else, why can't he recycle souls? If you decide to pursue this question, please be careful about hypnosis that brings about past life regression. There are other more safer methods. Enjoy your lives. We are here to learn, grow, and evolve. http://taobarbie.com

First Christians beleived in reincarnation. It was taken out of the picture afterwards, could not say exact reasons why. I have read an interesting book, in Spanish though, but I think it's available in English too. The author is Brian Weiss, a famous psychologist from Miami, and he has several books on this topic. I'll try to remember the title of his book and edit later on. Yes, it was " Muchas Vidas, Muchos Maestros" - in English : "Many Lives, Many Masters".

I have seen past life regressions, but the problem with them is they are too much like hypnosis in that the person performing the regression can influence what the person being performed on sees or hears or ends up believing. It's too questionable and open to all sorts of screw ups.

If you think you have memories of other times, maybe they are. I would just do some research and, above all, trust your instincts.

Recommend the book " Have You Lived Before This Life "
by L.Ron Hubbard.
Discovering truth about who we are does not invalidate anyone's religion. It only increases understanding of ourselves and others and the spiritual nature of man.

You probably have "memories" of future lives too. Check the sourced webpage.

It is not real. The notion that you have lived this life before is interesting. Talk to your pastor about your questions. They will answer your equestions.
