I am more terrified of an eternity in Heaven.I mean,if that's how it really is,going on and on in the same place, knowing there wasn't going to be any more growth or death or life cycles. No babies being born,no colds to nurse. No owies to kiss...basically nothing we know now. That's scarier.I prefer the thought of being reincarnated. That would mean life after death, but there would still be cycles.I don't relish the thought of getting old and dying, but I just can't stand the thought of being in the same place for eternity, with no CHANGE! I want to see babies being born and growing and bunnies hopping around.I wouldn't want to sit around and sing all day and just walk around in sameness.Stifling, very stifling.I know,I know,I don't have to worry about that.I'm not going with the rest of ya'll.Have fun! I'll just be in Hell, being the barbecue.Sigh.Kimberli,the other white meat.

Yes, the idea that it all ends is very disturbing.
On the bright side, you won't be. There will be no awareness of bugs or worms or the roots of plants. There will be no you, only a collection of molecules.
Think of it as having taken from the earth, you are giving it all back -- life as balance.
But some people can't handle even that, and retreat into warm and fuzzy fantasies to avoid the relaities of death. I can understand that, and don't really have a problem with it. So dream your dreams if they make you feel better. When they finally stop, you won't even know it.

This response ironically supports atheism because it shows that when confronted with the thought of death and non-existence, people just look for a philosophy or belief system that will make them feel better. People elevate this chosen belief system to the level of 'faith' to give it a more special meaning. I've seen this dynamic so often in people - when faced with something that is threatening or frightening, they instantly reject it and tune it out and cover it over by adopting a belief system that becomes their world. Now, this wouldn't be a problem but it does rob the person of seeking a direct experience of god/truth. These beliefs can be used for the short term while people are on shaky ground but in the end a real and direct experience of god is possible if we don't stay cocooned in the blanket of our adopted belief system. And I mean a real experience that transcends the very self we think we are. Concepts and beliefs are just that -- concepts and beliefs.

I don't think it's spooky at all. Also, it would be very difficult for someone to convince me to believe in god because I believe that many of the people who call themselves Christians don't actually believe either. Before you get mad at what I'm saying, think about it for a moment.
If you're a Christian, you believe that ALL of your sins will be forgiven. You will have everlasting happiness in heaven. If you TRULY believe this, why aren't you walking down the street screaming hallelujah? Why don't I see you with a smile on your face from ear to ear and laughing everywhere you go because you are overwhelmed with the knowledge that you are saved? I personally believe that this is because many people who say they believe, have personal doubt deep down inside. The only person I've seen on here lately that seems stoked about the whole idea is the person that posted the question. Before you try to make me believe - make me believe that YOU believe.

Death being final is not as scary as having to live forever in one of two Hells. So-called "Heaven" is bleak and joyless, so it's just another type of Hell. How old are you? Isn't it time to learn that wishing doesn't make anything true? You cannot live forever in one of the two Hells, because they don't really exist. They were invented by priests to make gullible people think and do as the unscrupulous priests want...and that includes above all putting much money in collection plates after hearing wild tales about nonexistent Hell and Heaven.

I think heaven and hell are just an imagination in your mind.
The atheist philosophy is the impartial truth of afterlife. it is immutable truth.
In realistic society, people of Idolatry like you are disingenuous when it come to the definition of reality.
You do good just because you want to go to heaven, everything else is Immaterial. this kind of act is disingenuous to human society.
We as atheist, do good without seeking for any return simply because for us here is the heaven. We enjoy living on the earth.
We contribute to the human society and we don't ask the society for any in return after we die. Our human society, families and friends are what we care the most.
We see death is a biological cycle. Giving new opportunities to the next generation. Fair and reasonable.

Well, that's what all the theistic b.s. is about: denying the reality of death.
Argh! Death is too much for me to take... hey there's a man saying I can live forever..., Ooooooo, I like that idea a lot better, I'll go listen to him. What's it cost? Oh, all I have to do is give him my faith in what he says. O.K. Done deal.

Some of us believe in reincarnation. That's not so spooky. Spooky is when you piss on this life expecting the afterlife to be better.

Nobody knows what happens after death. There is no way to find out what happens after death until you die.
