We often forget that the cross is really a place of execution. Would you wear an electric chair around your nect?

I am Catholic. Yes you may wear a crucifix and it is NOT in bad taste. If we truly believe in Jesus then we should never be ashamed to show it outwardly. A crucifix is a great manifestation of our belief in our Lord and savior who died for us on the Cross, and to wear it allows us to witness about it.

Maybe you are thinking of the rosary and not a simple crucifix. The rosary is made of beads for praying on and a crucifix at the end. Before the Vatican II Council Catholics were told not to wear their rosaries because they were for praying and not to be used as jewelry which could be irreverent. However, now many people wear their rosaries for the purpose of manifesting their Christian Faith outwardly.

No, many people wear a crucifix to show their faith in Jesus Christ.

If you choose to wear a crucifix, or a cross, then remember to behave accordingly. You are telling the world that you believe in and are trying to live the Gospel message.

It would be wrong to wear a cross or crucifix and then behave in an unchristian-like manner.

With love in Christ.

it's not wrong at all. in my catecism classes at church, we made crucifix necklaces to wear. The teacher had us make them as an art project type thing.
and when i was getting ready to do my confirmation, at our retreat, we were handed crucifix neckalces made of leather with our names printed on them...they were meant to be worn.

but Rosaries are meant to be prayed, NOT worn. Although they may look like necklaces, they're not. You say a special prayer for each bead on the rosarie while you hold the rosarie in your hand and the prayer book in the other.
i've worn a crucifix as a necklace many times.

I don't know the official ruling of the Church on that nowadays, but I can tell you that it's more a matter of why you wear it around your neck as opposed to whether you wear it around your neck, and oftentimes the reason you wear it around your neck will show in the style of crucifix you wear. The "why" can be the difference between whether it's sinful or worshipful. God Bless you.

No, they are part of a class of objects known as sacramentals that bring graces upon the wearer. However, it is not proper to wear a Rosary which usually will have a crucifix at the end.

Gee, I hope not, I was given one for confirmation by my RCIA director. I wear it every waking moment.

No, it isn't wrong or in bad taste. It is a constant reminder of the suffering that Jesus went through for me, and the whole world.

No. This object is simply a reminder to the individual and others of the redemptive sacrifice that Jesus offered to all people.
