When my sister in law had a baby I watched her older child for about a month during this time. It was continuous she even spent the night for about 2 weeks before the baby and 2 weeks after. I took her to the store and told her she could pick out any outfit she wanted as a big sister gift. The only thing she wanted was underwear, because her mom doesnt make her wear it. So I bought her underwear and a cute dress. A week later the sisinlaw had a garage sale and sold all of her new clothes that i bought her. As I walked around, I found some of my stuff and My other sisnlaw found her stuff in the sale. put in the sale w/o permission. Stuff we accidently left at our momnlaws house. We grabbed our stuff and put it in the car and left. I feel so disrespected. She never said thanks to me for watching the child for as long as I did, and tried to sell my kids stuff at her garage sale. I try to help but she doesn't appreciate it.

She probably wants to be in control of her child from all sides and is ashamed that she had to pass the child off on someone else. Don't think so much about the mother, think more about the child.

Well, after you gave it to her daughter, the clothes weren't yours anymore, they were hers. Yes, it was tacky of her to sell them in a garage sale, but she had that right to do that. Not with the stuff that you guys had left at your mother in laws house, she shouldn't have tried to sell that at all. She sounds like a weirdo to me. Just don't buy her stuff in the future. Send her kids gift cards, or take them on outings for their gifts, rather than buying them stuff. Best of luck to you.

You should keep buying her things and keep it at your house for special occasions when she comes for a visit. That was very rude of the mother. You are a nicer person than I would have been. I would have to confront her. You sound like a really nice person. Don't let this woman get you down. Think of your niece and what she must be going through.

No, it isn't right at all. Next time you buy her clothes you should keep them at your house for when she comes to visit. Thats what my grandma does. My uncle and his wife are divorced and whenever his ex drops my 3 year old cousin off at my grandmas house for the weekend she has nice clothes to wear that my grandma bought her. When her mom picks her back up she puts the same clothes back on her that she wore when she came over. (washed of course).
