let me see your neice, let her parents decide comes to mind.

But the parent needs to just take it away and not let them have it, that is a simple fix, a parent has to be a parent If you throw them all away they will be off the bottle.

By the way 4 is way to old, and it can danage the childs teeth

Her parents should have taken her off the bottle years ago. Throw away all the bottles in the house. Give her a cup. She is 4 and old enough to drink from one. Let her cry or fuss, she will stop in a couple of days. A 4-year-old should not be given a choice about this. Just take it.

There was a show on TV the other night about this. They suggested deluting the milk or with water each night until it is completly water. Then pick a day and throw all the bottles out and replace them with sippy cups. She might cry for a few days but then she will get use to the cups. Good Luck!

Are you the primary guardian for this child?
If so, then you just have to put your foot down. You can't let kids walk all over you. Because if they walk all over you at 4 years old they'll be doing it for life.
Throw out all of the bottles. She can whine and complain all she wants.
When she gets thirsty and wants to drink she'll whine for the bottle. Tell her no, because she is a big girl and she'll have to use a cup.
Put a little of whatever (milk, water, juice...) in the cup. She might throw it. And just let her know that's fine because she wont get any more untill she learns to behave.
Eventually (2-3 hours) she'll come around and drink from a cup because she'll be too tired to complain, too thirsty to care, or she'll realize who the adult is.

I've seen many parents go through this. The parents need to pick a day and get rid of every bottle in the house. If there aren't any bottles she can't have one. They'll only have to deal with the crying for a couple of days. Parents end up giving in to their kids trying to ween them off the bottle cause they don't want to put up with the crying and whining. They just need to do it.

Cutting them off of the bottle cold turkey is the way that the nanny's on that show Nanny 911 do it, and it works everytime. It's heck for the first probably 3 days but then it gets better.

GET RID OF ALL BOTTLES! if their is no other option...then there isno way she can use a bottle....i mean comeon....4 years old. she sould have started with sippy cups around the 1 year mark so she will get to learn how to drink out of a normal cup . my best suggestion would be remove all bottles out of the house and replace them with sippy cups. if she has a fit...shes going to have to deal with it...sooner or later she will have no choice but do drink from the cup

Your niece could be told that all the bottles have to be given away because there are younger children in town who need them. Have her help collect them in a box and then have her help "donate" them to the Goodwill or Salvation Army. Make her feel as though she is doing a good thing for other children whose moms and dads can't afford to buy bottles.

well, if you throw away all the bottles in the house there wont be a problem anymore becuase she couldnt possibly use them... unless she drives herself to the store to buy some (unlikely)
my parents had trouble getting me off of the pacifier and apparently the only thing that worked was to cut off the plastic "nipple" as reccomended by a childs physician
it worked!

throw every bottle away and make her drink out of the cup and at first she would not like that but she will get thirsty and she will realize there is no such thing as a bottle.
