when they started eating about 4 jars a sitting I decided it was time to upgrade. Plus when I was comfortable with whether they could swallow it and not choke. They were about 7-8 months. They had a least four teeth by then, so they could chew it. Although my second would just swallow it hole.

Discuss with your pediatrician. If the baby seems well-fed and happy with breast milk or formula, keep it up until at least 6 months old. Start with one meal of a no-allergy type of food, like apple sauce or rice cereal. A small jar is plenty for breakfast, and allow the baby to still have formula after this. Each month, try a new cereal and a new fruit or vegetable. Around 9 months or so, start incorporating a meat, like chicken. All this should be the small baby jars of the pureed foods. After a year old, graduate them to somewhat chunkier foods, but don't give them sugars, or spiced foods yet. You can start fixing your own foods for the baby, don't spice things, remove a small portion (ie soup, stew) out of the pot, for the baby, then use a hand blender to puree it for the baby. Then you spice the rest for the family.
These you can freeze in the ice cube trays, when frozen remove them into ziploc bags for later. After awhile, you'll have a freezer with puree carrots cubes, puree chicken and rice cubes, pear banana puree cubes, etc. It is cheaper and faster this way.
How you feed your baby in the first few years of life is what will determine the child's future eating habits...so don't give a baby french fries or coolaid in a bottle, very bad!!!

Every baby is different and teeth comes in at different times. Generally the baby will let you know when they are hungry for more food and show interest. YET you do need to pay attention to their digestive systems being ready. Introducing foods too early is believed to increase food allergies. The general thought is about 6months of age. Nothing before 4 months should be introduced. They CAN"T digest it at all. That is fact and not opinon. However follow hints around 4-6months as to what baby is interested in and start the introduction about 6mo. They will fully start eating other foods about 8-9months. Full meals around 11-12months. Good Luck

It depends on the child.I have one child that started eating solids at 6 and a half week old,one at 4 months old and one at 5 and a half months old. They say that a breastfed baby sometimes don't need solids for up to 7 to 8 months. You will know when a baby is ready to start solids, they aren't satisfied with just a bottle or a boob-feed(ii don't know how to express the latter) and they watch every mouthful that you put into your mouth as you eat.I hope was of some help.Best of luck

Do you mean stage 2 foods? All babies are different and it is really when the stage ones are not enough and the baby is ready for chunkier/thicker foods. My daughter is 8 months old and just started stage 1 about 3 weeks ago. My son was on stage 2 foods by 5 months. All babies are really different and you should take your cues for readiness from your child-good luck!

If a baby is being breast fed and Mommy dearset is eating good foods then why rush the foods thing...if baby is growing, sleeping, healthy, happy...let nature be your guide. So many try to do as the Joneses and force solids in too soon, too quick and too much and then are sorry for obese children later.

For dairy products, eggs, wheat wait until they are 9 months. Mushed veggies like carrots, peas and squash can be started at 6 months. For nuts, honey, wait until they are two years old, please! Allergies can be severe if they are exposed earlier.
