When dealing with paint, you are using subtractive coloring. That means things like "yellow and blue make green." When dealing with light, you are using additive colors. That's why big screen TVs always have a red, blue, and green light...those are the primary colors and with them you can make all others. But with subtractive colors, everything's inverted. Mixing colors will never get you white...and all colors mixed gets you black. You have to start with white paint to get white paint.

Red and blue make purple, and there are 3 primary colors that are just natural colors and are mixed together to make the rest of the colors they are red, blue and yellow, red and blue make purple, blue and yellow make green, yellow and red make orange...then white and black are also natural colors, white and black are nuetrals and they are used to make lighter or darker shades of the colors.

it is wierd.
In science, the teacher had a disc with all the basic colors on it.
It was attached to a motor and when he spun it fast, the whole disc looked like it was white. So, it seems that it takes all the primary colors to make white. At least that was what our eyes perceived.

You have to have light to have color. Black is the absence of light; thus, there is no color. When all the colors of the rainbow mix together, white light is created. When white light hits something that is white, it appears as white to us. White is white because it absorbs no color and it reflects all colors equally.

You cannot mix any combination of pigments and get white. You get black if you blend complementary colors, if they are pure and the correct value. If not, you get browns or greys. You mix all colors of light to get white, but blending light is additive, while mixing pigments is subtractive. You have no choice but to buy white pigment.

Black is the presence of all colors. If you mix all colors together you get black. White is the absence of all color, therefore, there is no combination of colors that you can mix together to get white.
