I lived there for 27 years, basically all my life.
It is a great place if you like low population, extremely clean air and water, and outdoor activities...as well as more natural beauty and wildlife than the rest of the USA combined.
Unfortunately, the drawbacks are long and cold winters, as well as depression people suffer from the lack of daylight in the winter. The mosquitoes seem bigger compared to other states but they aren't as bad as some people say, unless you're out in the deep woods somewhere.
One bonus for residents is the "Permanent Fund Dividend" which is generated from interest on the oil. Each resident gets a check for around $1,000 every October.
All in all it is a place everyone should visit at least once in their lives (make your first trip during June or July though...)

I went there on a cruise this past summer it rocked! It isn't bad, really! It's awesome and they have awesome malls. Really!
