On the firewall near the steering column there is a black box with a red button on top, jump the 2 wires going into the box and see if the pump runs.
If it does, and pushing the button does not fix it, replace the inertia switch.

In 87 the main pump is on the frame, the pump in the tank is just a pick-up for the main pump. If no pumps works, it maybe the fuel pump relay

It could be either a bad ignition swith or a bad fuel pump relay.
Check with a volt meter to see if you have a full 12 volts at the pump.
If not make sure that you have signal and 12 volt constant at the relay.

I would check the following: make sure you've got 12 volts to the pump, replace gas filter, check pressure regulator, check your fuel line for leaks or cracks or air sucking.
Almost forgot, your truck has an inertia fuel shut down switch???
Good luck!!!!!!!.

ignition module controls the fuel pump have it checked at autozone or advance. you can hear the pump come on when you turn the key to on if you live the door open or lay on the ground and have someone turn the key to on. but i would bet the ignition module is the problem
