Have your friend purchase Milk Replacer for DOGS. It is even available at the pet section in Walmart, so it is readily accessible. And, of course, most major pet stores will carry it.
It comes both canned and in powder form. The cans are easier. It's critical that the puppy gets proper nutrition or it will die. Your friend should get the puppy to a Veterinarian as soon as possible, as well.

She needs to go to the vet, pet supply store or to a farm supply store and get something called 'Just Born'. It is a supplemental puppy formula. Regular milk will kill that puppy and it will do it fast. It is very important that she gets what she needs for the puppy. Here is a homemade recipe: 2 cups goats milk, add 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 egg yolk (yellow part only) - If she doesn't have any goats milk, she can use evaporated milk to get through the night. Good Luck

how old is the puppy? go to wallmart or the vets and get a puppy supplement. no milk you are tearing up the puppies digestive system.it will also get diahrea. what did the mother die from?were there other puppies? stop the milk. at 4 weeks start him on some good puppy chow soaked and also some dry and get him weaned from the puppy formula. keep him on puppy chow for at least a year while they are growing and use the same brand or he will get tummy upsets again. if you give him away tell the new owners his habits and what you feed him give them a sample until they get to the store.

I found this info on a kennel site, hope it helps you.
Here are some general rules for bottle feeding puppies:
Always boil your water before using - allow time to cool.
Burp your pups after feeding.
A pup may have little bubbles by his mouth but there should not be milk running out of his mouth.
When the bottle is held upside down the milk should drip out - NOT FLOW OUT in a stream - pups that get milk in their lungs will get pneumonia and more than likely die.
Calorie intake needs to be adjusted according to growth of puppies. A general rule of thumb (unless someone has a better idea) is 1 CC per OZ. of body weight every 3 hours.
You must have an accurate scale to weigh pups if you are going to get the best success. Use a kitchen food scale. The ones with grams is what we use in our kennel. It is easy to see any weight gain or loss. Keep a record that you can easily refer to.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bottle Feeding Recipe
11 Calories per CC
10 oz. of canned evaporated milk or goat's milk (not pasteurized cow's milk - this will cause scowers - dogs cannot drink normal cow's milk)
3 oz. sterilized water (baby water or boiled water) this is not needed if using goat's milk
1 raw egg yolk
1 tablespoon regular mayonnaise (optional)
1 cup of whole yogurt (avoid skim or fat free)
1/2 Tsp Karo Syrup or Corn Syrup (NOT HONEY !!!)
Place ingredients in a blender and blend or use a wire whisk. Be careful to not over blend and create a milk shake full of bubbles and then tube bubbles into the puppy.
Keep cool and discard leftovers after 7 days.
Warm formula to body temperature (dogs are around 101 degrees). Discard any un-used formula. This is a thick mixture - use a stomach tube to tube feed or enlarge the hole in the nipple for easy access for the pup.

Ok this is what you do. go to walmart and get a mini can of prefab animal milk in the pets area, they have nursing bottles next to that. they have to be fed every hour or so newborn, or when they will take the bottle thereafter. DO NOT FEED HER COWS MILK OR ANYTHING OTHER THAN the prefab stuff made for baby mamals. puppies/kittens do not have the enzyme to break down the lactose in cows milk, just like some people are lactose intol.--we are not cows so some of us lack that enzme. make sure you stimulte her bowels also or they wont eat and their organs will fail-- use a piece of toilet paper and gently wipe their privates and they will pee. if this is too much for you talk to the humane society in your area- good luck!

Oh my goodness!!!
Feeding your dog regular milk will KILL HIM!!!
Cow's milk is not intended to be fed to puppies!!
the best thing to do is to get a formula mix from the vet ASAP!
and hopefully the little bugger will survive that treatment!
Maybe your friend isn't ready to own a puppy if she's feeding it regular milk!!
well good luck with this, and I hope the poor little puppy will survive!
PS. wouldn't you want to get an honest opinion from a vet than from god knows who on yahoo questions???

She needs to get puppy formula from the vet or pet store. Regular milk does not agree with dogs.

a dog will also throw up if you feed it steak and cheese, every night. remind her she is feeding a PUPPY and not a BABY. the puppy NEEDS dogs milk. a local breeder should have mothers milk for it.
