I am not sure if any type of Absinthe is legal in the US at all. It is possible to get it in the country. The stuff is really gross though. I think it tastes like licorice and I only drank on glass with the water and the sugar cube and I wanted to puke because of the taste. I never saw a green fairy....... As far as its being real, I would have no doubt. France, Germany and England all make Absinthe as well but their recipes are different from the Czech Republic recipe ( the original).

I have always heard that it is illegal in the states but I do believe you can purchase it online and have it shipped here. The wormwood is what generally makes the product so "potent."
As for the taste, etc. I had shots of the stuff without the water or sugar cube and it can really mess you up. I didn't see things that weren't there, I just couldn't really see things. It burns all the way into your nasal cavities when you drink the stuff. I liked it, but I would recommend that if you buy some, drink in moderation. Drinking too much beer is one thing but drinking too much absinthe is totally different. Please be careful.

The amount of alcohol in absinthe doesn't determine if it's legal in the United States. It's whether or not it has wormwood in it. This is the hallucinigenic that supposedly give absinthe its properties.
You can buy 'clean' absinthe in the US, though there is no wormwood in it.

Absinthe is real; very real. It is also very dangerous. I have drank this stuff before a few times. I knew the dangers but I wanted to be cool. I would not do it anymore. If not made properly (and properly is pure luck) it can kill you. PLEASE LEAVE THIS STUFF ALONE. It is not worth the price of your life and plus once you get over the fact that you drank some you realize it actually taste like s**t.

Yes it's real, but no, it's not legal in the U.S. Absinthe is actually an old drink, made with wormwood. Wormwood is said to have psychoactive properties that can cause a mental "trip", therefore it is not legal in the U.S.

Yes, it's quite real. The effects of Wormwood are well documented though still not fully understood. It is not a controlled substance in the U.S. but it is illegal to sell it in liquor stores and bars. However it is not illegal to posses or use. The active ingredient is a substance called Thujone. It's chemical structure is very similiar to THC. The effects, though similiar, are said to be rather unique. It is a substance that should be used in moderation as large doses of Thjone can be deadly (so can large doses of alcohol, for that matter)

Absinthe is real and illegal in the US. Too bad, my husband has been dying to try some. We will have to make it to Europe to do so.

There is a drink called absinthe which can be purchased in the US. However, no matter where it is sold, it lacks wormwood, which was the ingredient that gave it its hallucinogenic effect.

Its real. Legal in the US depending on its alcohol proof. The true stuff I think is at 170-180 proof.

Absinthe is real, and is illegal. If you go to eBay and search for it you can buy some there. It is illegal to consume, but not illegal to own for collector's purposes, therefore, it can be sold as a 'collector's item' as long as it is unopened
