It may be as simple as changing his food to one with a higher protein content. I changed Pouncer's food from Purina Cat Chow to Maximum Nutrition and the diarrhea quit.
Do check those loose stools for parasites however...Yeah I know- gross. But if it is that better to catch it early.
Do both of these now and if he still has it call your vet! Better safe than sorry.

maybe worms is the culprit
