Seriously anything (within reason of course). Begging for something specific would be against his beliefs, since Buddhist monks don't believe in desire for material things. I would give them a bit of money and food. Money so they can bring it back to their temple for necessities, and food so he can statisfy his hunger or share it. Although, I think it's customary for food.

Alms usually are food yes. That's pretty much a monks food source. And according to the Buddha it is alright to eat meat as long as it wasn't "seen heard or suspected to be killed for you as the consumer."

If you respect what he's doing as a monk, then give him some food-To show appreciation.
If you it doesn't matter to you what He's doing as a monk, or if you don't like what he's doing as a monk, then give him some food, just because he's hungry.

In Thailand, they have to beg for their two meals per day, or they don't eat. It's not really begging, just the custom for monks.
Our Christian clergymen would be better people if they had to do the same.

You're supposed to give him food. Any type of food. Doesn't matter. As long as it's food. But, to be safe, -for you- just vegetarian stuff.
