shouldn't, but that shouldn't be the concern. the concern should be that kittens need more protein found in kitten food and kittens and adult cats require taurine that is not in dog food.

Cats are obligate carnivores, this means that in the wild, a cat would ONLY eat meat. Dogs, on the other hand, are more like us, and would scavenge and eat almost anything available. Basically what this means is that cats need an extremely high level of protein for them to be healthy. Dogs can have food with a lot more carbohydrates. If your kitty gets his claws into the dog food, he's gonna get sick, because his tummy can't digest carbs. Your dog should only be fed once or twice a day, and you shouldn't be leaving anything out for him, so it should be easy to keep kitty away from the dog food. Make sure that whenever your dog is finished at his bowl, you take it away from him. On the other hand, cats do not as a rule overeat, so you can leave out some premium kitten pellets for him to munch on during the day. This should 'cure' him of his need to eat the dog food! Please make sure your kitty breaks this habit quickly, because it's probably getting diarrhea from the food, but also because its still so young. If it keeps on eating the dog food, the diarrhea will eventually stop, but the low protein food will be extremely bad for it, and in fact, because of the high carbohydrate content, your kitty will probably end up clinically obese!

Good luck!

There are two reasons for this.

1. Your kitten may not be getting the nutrition it needs from the food you are giving it. I recommend Purina Kitten Chow.

2. Cats will eat the food of other cats (and animals) as a show of dominance. Your dog may not be standing up for itself against this kitten. In this case, your kitten will overstuff itself with diarrhea and vomiting being the result. If this is the case, you have 2 choices. Encourage the dog to be dominant (I suggest declawing your kitten) or let the cat be dominant and just place the food where only the dog can get to it.

Good Luck

kittens that young should be eating a good brand of kitten chow until they are fully grown up to 1 year. Keep the dog food away from him and keep your kitten on the same kind of food changing his diet will give him many tummy upsets and diahrea. the dog food is doing the trick .also whole milk will to. Put his food up high so the dog dosent get it. they love cat food to.We have 4 cats and 2 dogs we keep thier food dish on top of the dryer with rubber placemat under it which is washable also kittens eat alot while they are growing so get a fillable bowl where he can eat often. maybe he was hungry and was after the dogfood. a no no for kittys. they need the nutric ian that is in the kitten chow and the calories to make them healthy with a nice coat. brush him every day with a soft brush

Cats need 3 TIMES more protein than dogs. They need taurine for a healthy brain, which is not found in dog food. That`s kind of why they call it dog food and cat food, a cat eats cat food and a dog eats dog food.

Kittens should, remember this now,
NEVER NEVER NEVER
eat dog food of any kind, dry or canned unless you're on a desserted island and all you have is dog food and then the kitten will grow into an unhealthy adult cat.

Cats need a higher nutrition content than dogs, so their food is higher in nutrients than dog food. It's not good for your cat to eat the dog food. Try to get her to eat her cat food.

Don't worry about it - my cat eats the dog food and the dog eats the cat food - they're fine, just don't give it human food.
