Maybe. And that is quite possible too since time in the spiritual realm is not experienced in the same way that we do. In the spiritual world time, as we know it, does not exist. There all time is NOW. We experience time in a linear fashion, one second following another. In the spiritual world it is not linear.
But speaking of our time, the linear kind, it's hard for me to imagine that mankind would not have long since been passed away 5000 years from now - from his own devices.

I think it will happen soon, we are the living in the time when Jesus said " This generation shall not pass, without seeing the Son of man comming" which was refering to the time the Jewish people came back to their lands which happened in 1942. We are that generation of people. Lets hope that the time is near when the people of Jerusalem call on the name of the Lord to deliver them from all the trouble over there, for as Christ says in MATTHEW 23 verse 37-39.( if you want to you can keep reading to see how it is going to be in the "LAST DAYS" good luck and God bless you)

If humans are still around, Christianity may not exist or it will be drastically different.
Christianity isn't much older than about 1500 years. Humans have been around for over one million years, and none of our current religions have lasted more than 3500 years, most much less. We have archaelogical evidence that humans practiced religion tens of thousands of years ago. None of these religions exist today. So, it would seem that religions either evolve or die. Most have died.
I would like to see Christianity and other religions evolve over time, but it's not for me to say.
In any case, even the atheists are predicting the end these days. Let's face it...the world has never been like this.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if that were the case, if Christianity wasn't rendered obsolete by then.I strongly suspect that 5,000 years in the future, the predominant religion will be Gryffindorism, where the main deity worshiped is Harry Potter, and all the books are equated to modern day Bible status.Think about it. It could happen.

They will realize that God did not inform them when the New Heaven and New Earth was established. God is no respector of persons.
Swedenborg states "a perception of the sphere of falsity from evil that flows forth from hell has often been granted me. It was like a perpetual effort to destroy all that is good and true, combined with anger and a kind of fury at not being able to do so, especially an effort to annihilate and destroy the Divine of the Lord, and this because all good and truth are from Him. But out of heaven a sphere of truth and good was perceived, whereby the fury of the effort ascending from hell was restrained. The result of this was an equilibrium. This sphere from heaven was perceived to come from the Lord alone, although it appeared to come from the angels in heaven. It is from the Lord alone, and not from the angels, because every angel in heaven acknowledges that nothing of good and truth is from himself, but all is from the Lord" (Heaven and Hell n. 538).

every generation has been saying it for the last 2000 years or so, and if He doesn't come withinin the next 5000 years, of course they'll say He's coming. He'll be here when He gets here.

Yes -- unless they blow up the world before then with their war-mongering (in the name of God). I mean, isn't there a Christian President who invaded Iraq for no real reason? People knew there were no weapons of mass destruction and that OIL was the real reason for the invasion.
Or, if their religious leaders don't start another huge war because a Christian minister wanted to kill a foreign leader (PAT ROBERTSON & CHAVEZ).

We will be saying THANK YOU JESUS for the new heaven and earth and the wonderful time that we will be having with our Lord and King. What a great time we will have.. But for now we just prepare to meet the Lord..
2Peter 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
2Peter 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
2Pe 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
Rev 6:4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

No one knows when Jesus will return. Some try to, based on what is told in Revelations but all the signs are not yet in place. When they are Jesus will return. It is not for us to judge God's perfect timing.
