You really have a thing about bathing your dog, don't you?

I have a 7 year old dog to this day hates to get a bath, she will do anything and everything she can to avoid it. And it's not like she had a bad experience with water or anything, she just hates to get a bath.

Some dogs enjoy baths, other don't and never will and still others just tolerate it. So there's nothing I can advise to help bath time go any easier. In that case I wouldn't look to be bathing this dog very often, it may only make things worse.

well first of all, is to make your dog used to baths at a very young age, the earlier, the better.

and theres two ways you can get your dog to "enjoy" a bath, but it depends if you have a big outside dog, or a small indoor dog.

for an indoor dog, put him/her in the tub that is empty at first and use water in a bucket to wash him/her. After your dog is used to this, simply start putting a bit a water in the tub and put a little more each time. (also I recommend you buy a rubber mat so your dog doesn't scratch your tub and slips all over the place)
What really works well is a "telephone shower" rather than jsut dumping water on your dog. And make sure you keep the dog shampoo away from his/her eyes.

but you basically have to play it by year, sometimes it will take a very long time for dogs to get used to it, so be patient. but I must warn you, some dogs, you'll never be able to "enjoy" washing them, some dogs just don't like baths at all, plain and simple.
But what really helps, is to enforce good behavior by praising them alot and giving treats if they are behaving well during/and after the bath.

As for an outside dog, I would say, that your best bet would be that if you have a kiddie pool, to use that to wash your dog, and follwo the steps from the tub.

And if you're still having lots of trouble, maybe ask some advice from a vet or a place that grooms dogs.

There may also be another alternative, I've seen in many local pet-stores in my area that have self-wash grooming in their store, where they have tubs and everything you need to wash your dog, and you don't need to make a whole mess at your house/appartment or where ever you live, and they don't charge that much.

and a final alternative, is to simply bring your dog to a local pet grooming shop and get them to wash your dog and/or give him a haircut.

hope this helps you, and good luck!

My dogs like a shower hose sprayer rather than having to dump water over them..which freaks them out. When they were younger (not that they are very old now...one a little over a year, the other a little under) we used to make it a game...I would sit on the ledge pf the tub with my legs in the water (so they know its okay to be wet) and talk to them the whole time telling them they were good puppies, and as soon as they were somewhat dry we would go for a good romp aroung the house...playing and having fun. Now they look forward to the few minutes of being bathed, for the play after.

Of course, you've probably already tried using lukewarm water and a good dog shampoo; beyond that all you can do is to feed him or her treats periodically during the bathing process -- and make the process as short as possible. Give her or him lots of positive attention after the bath, too.

I think you should reward you dog after a bath and keep on doing that, then he'll want the treat and not make issues

First, have patience. Then break down the whole process into itty bitty steps and reward him for each step. If you are doing it in your tub, temp him into the bathroom and give him a treat. Do that a few times until he's calm in the bathroom. Then tempt him into the tub with the water off, do that a few times for treats. Then tempt him in the tub with a little water running.....etc...you get the picture. Get him feeling comfortable, calm and submissive in each step before moving on to the next one. Try not to force him into anything, as that will just make the whole experience anxiety producing.

Good luck.

start off with a shower spray first
then little by little put him in the tub. Make sure there aint that much water in the tub.
He may never like baths. You might have just give him a shower spray.
