by nearly every religious group that ever existed?
Because there have been so many, I am posting this link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unfulfilled_historical_predictions_by_Christians
It's not feasible to list all of them here.
If "prophecy" is so incoherent it can be so widely misinterpreted, how can you consider it prophecy?

Some of you seem to be missing the point.
There are no end times prophecies as evidenced by the fact people have used the same book used today as their reference "proving" the "end is near."
Prophecies are specific and cannot be intepreted to mean hundreds of different things and still be considered prophecy.

The 60's were my teenage to adult years and I remember them quite fondly. (other than that little vacation courtesy of the US Army)

Thanks, FC,
It's a miracle, I guess. Maybe it's because I have no set schedule for being on Y!A and as likely to be here at 3 am as 3 pm (CST US).

One day within the next 100 years I will die. How's that for a prophecy. I bet it will be true.

True enough and absolute truth at that. It even states in the bible that no man can predict the coming of Christ (end of days) or what ever. Yet just about every religious group says that the end is near. Remember the old pictures of hippies with signs saying that in the 60's? I can list one religious group that HAS NOT predicted an end time. PAGANS! We do not have such a doomsday doctrine. Why? Because our Goddess is not a destructive Deity, she is a creator not a destroyer. There is no predictions from any pagan community saying that the end of the world is happening and that she will be returning. She has never left, she is nature and she is all around. Just my opinion

Prophecies such as the "end times" were not just incorrectly identified. They were used primarily to freighten the people for the purpose of controlling the mind.
In Mark 13:32 No one know about that day or hour, not even the angels inheaven, nor the son, but only the father, Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.
Since Jesus himself does not know, why do we have to believe those who are making speculations.
Many churches grew big and spectacular by capitalizing on the campaign that the end time is near.

Prophesy is one of the gifts to the church given by the Holy Spirit. It is not to be used for selfish gain, or guessing. It is to line up with Bible record otherwise it is in total error. Unfortuately, too many Christians often fall into the trap of wanting to predict or guess the future. That is not our job. We are to be ready and get the world ready for the coming of Jesus. If the Holy Spirit speaks through Christians about what is to come, it had better line up with the Bible or it is false. No one knows, not Jesus, not the Holy Spirit, only the Father. Our wild guesses are only that. That does not make them prophecy.

Your link about failures is written by men and some of the predictions were made by churches, not God influenced. A church is a group of ppl who believe in an idea or God but they are just ppl. Ppl make mistakes. The end has been coming and it seems to be on the downhill coming faster right now. I pray you and others will be prepared! I can't wait!

Swedenborg tells us that the last judgement and rearrangement in heaven happened in 1757.
Swedenborg states "a perception of the sphere of falsity from evil that flows forth from hell has often been granted me. It was like a perpetual effort to destroy all that is good and true, combined with anger and a kind of fury at not being able to do so, especially an effort to annihilate and destroy the Divine of the Lord, and this because all good and truth are from Him. But out of heaven a sphere of truth and good was perceived, whereby the fury of the effort ascending from hell was restrained. The result of this was an equilibrium. This sphere from heaven was perceived to come from the Lord alone, although it appeared to come from the angels in heaven. It is from the Lord alone, and not from the angels, because every angel in heaven acknowledges that nothing of good and truth is from himself, but all is from the Lord" (Heaven and Hell n. 538).

I hate to tell you but most of the prophesies of the Bible were very specific and did come to be. Jesus' return is very soon! though we don't know the exact hour we do know it's close by the signs around us.
by the way, I like your Papa Smurf avatar.

For God to say the end is near is very true. Time Means nothing to God.
People have no clue when the end times will happen. To assume the mind of God seems very dangerous to me

Anyone who spends all their time trying to predict when the world will end is a fool. What happened to being charitable and helping others?
