I grew up in a very small, country town, in a Christian family. Until I was an adult, I never knew that there were such things as Atheists and non-believers. When I started getting onto this site, I was shocked to see that there were so many Atheists and non-believers. It is extremely hard for me to comprehend why someone would choose to be either, as I did not grow up around this lifestyle. Anyways, in my shock over the number of Atheists and non-believers on here, I called my father. He has studied the Bible for over 15 years and I personally believe that he has a very good grasp on the meaning of different scripture and any other aspect of the Christian religion. When I told him that I was amazed that this site seemed to be overrun with Atheists and non-believers and seemed to out number Christians, he said it just seems that way and that in actuality 90% of the US were Christians . Now, I did not ask him where he got that information, cause I am sure that it was in one of the many Christian magazines or study guides that he reads. This made me really want to see exactly how many Christians there were on here. If you are a Christian please let me know.

I don't mean to be rude, but I asked who was a Christian. If you arn't then obviously that doesn't require you to answer the question.

That was amazing to me to. Even though they profess to be Christians they have never read the bible and don't believe most of what they have heard that it says. Do not believe in a here after.
Wether a paradise earth or a heavenly abode.
A large group of college students was asked a series of questions concerning this very thing. Most believed that Aliens existed. In fact more of them believed that then that Jesus existed. I am a Christian but was so shocked to hear ones in school tell me that. I am a christian but I don't really believe in that supersticious stuff. Heaven and hell.
I sooner believe and I do to. In a paradise earth and deadth is the end of it all for those who are wicked.
We complain about Muslims beliefs but no two christians believe alike.

I am of the Christian Faith

I did an unscientific count a while back and of the Questioners it was only around 3% those who could be, with any resonable certainty, concidered Christian from the way they fromed the question... I gave up trying to figgure out a perentage for answerers... But a guess would be around 30% of answers I looked at seemed to be from professing Christians... I did not count those answers which were soly cut and paste bible verses... any one can cut and paste... And I only counted answers which were clearly anti or pro Christian.

As in the world at large...satan is better represented than is God.

First of all, it is true that there are many unbelievers here but that is ok because it is a religion and spirituality site. Second, only about 30% of all Americans would identify themselves as having had a born-again experience. Finally, in surveys done by the Barna Research Institute, anywhere between 8-10% of Americans actually believe the fundamentals of biblical Christianity like a belief in a literal hell, the virgin birth of Christ, the deity of Christ, salvation by faith alone through grace alone in Christ alone, the verbal innerrancy of the Bible, the literal physical second coming of Christ and a literal view of a six day creation. Though they are important to growing in Christlikeness, they are not all essential to be a Christian. May God have mercy on our nation but bear in mind that broad is the way that leads to destruction and many ore on that road. And narrow is the road that leads to life andthere are few who find it in Christ and through what He did on the cross.

Yes here:) christian of no denomination.

You can check with the american census, they may have it but 80-90% is a good figure.

Ultimately i think people will believe what they want to believe.
the current trend of thinking is called "post modernism" whereby nothing is black and white. everything is grey.

you are right in saying how many christian magazines should be treated skeptically as many wrote out of their own opinions, exaggerates or poor research.
But if you want to test the validity then check it with the bible. you can use more than one version of the bible NIV, NKJV,..etc. prayer helps alot too as it will opens your mind and amplifies your spirit.

I'm a Christian, but want you to realize something about this website. It's a limited survey, because it is only based on who is on the internet and seeing this question at the time. So there are a lot more Christians out there who don't go on this website.

And I think there are a lot more people on this website who are from all walks of life and so it's pretty skewed here.

I am a Christian and I've seen a lot of Christians on this site make a sold stand for Christ. Unfortunately, I've also seen a lot of people use this forum to attack a lot of religions and ethnicities. Too bad that they are not using this site as a tool to learn and to grow in a lot of different, more positive ways.

90% of the population is not christian, The United States government keeps no official register of Americans' religious status. However, in a private survey conducted in 2001 and mentioned in the Census Bureau's Statistical Abstract of the United States, 76.7% of American adults identified themselves as Christian; about 52% of adults described themselves as members of various Protestant denominations; Roman Catholics, at 24.5%, were the most populous individual sect; Judaism (1.4%), the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1.3%), and other faiths also have firm places in American culture; about 14.2% of respondents described themselves as having no religion; the religious distribution of the 5.4% who elected not to describe themselves for the survey is unknown.
Between 1990 and 2001, the group whose portion of the population grew by the most percentage points was those who claimed no religion, making up 8.2% of the adult population in 1990, but 14.2% in 2001.[58] This group includes atheists, agnostics, humanists, secularists and those who answered to the effect of "No religion". The number of those with no religion varies wildly with location, reaching a high in Washington, at 25%, and the rest of the relatively agnostic western United States, and a low in North Dakota, at 3%, followed shortly by the Bible Belt.[73] In the U.S. women are generally more religious than men, at 42% and 31%, respectively; and younger Americans are more secular than their older counterparts, at 14% and 7%, respectively. Among racial and ethnic groups, blacks are the most religious, while Asians are the least, at 49% and 28%, respectively

Yes. I'm a Christian. I don't know exactly how many are on this site, but I'm definitelty one. I try to be loving and compassionate with all people, but I do get a little frustrated with the atheists (not all of them) who choose to mock my beliefs or try to disprove them.

I'm a Christian. I'm not sure about the 90% number, but I do know that, by numbers, Christians are in the majority by quite a bit. That said, why is it that our right to practice our religion, pray in public, in schools have been taken away by the minority? Why is it they are threatening to take "under God" out of The Pledge", "In God we trust" off our currency? How is it the atheists, agnostics, Muslims, etc can force us to give up our rights and give in to their whims? It's NOT right. When are we going to stand up for our selves and our rights.
