I would mind my own business because of the following....
1. Stores pay insurance against shoplifters in alot of cases.
2. Stores overcharge for items to make up for shoplifters.
3. Stores have systems in place such as surveilance and other measures to try to stop shoplifters
4. If someone is willing to put themselves on the line to steal something, they must really need it.
5. If you aren't paid by the store to monitor for shoplifters, although it may seem like the right thing to do to tell on them - it could cause you problems involving police and court.
6. If it is a small item - this person could end up going to jail for past offenses and things, meaning that you're involvement contributed to this person being imprisoned.
I am in no way condoning shoplifting, i think it is a pretty $hitty thing to do, but not getting involved seems to be the best option. If I owned a store I would appreciate someone telling me that somoene is stealing from my store, but I would not EXPECT anyone to do so. I would spend the resources I had to protect against shoplifters and train my employees to spot unusual behavior. If a person was shoplifting a CAR or a highly expensive electronic then I might consider notifying an employee and ask to remain annonymous... but something inexpensive would definately not hurt the business

It's none of my business. Furthermore, I'm an ex-theif (reformed) myself. How's that for being a hypocrite if I ratted out someone doing the same crap I used to do in my young, dumb days??
I'd likely pray for them, that they NEED whatever they are stealing, and they use it for something purposeful, not sell it and buy drugs or something. If I saw a young parent stealing baby items (like food, clothes, bottles, wipes, diapers, formula) and the baby was with them, I'd probably just offer to buy the items and buy a few more things for the baby for them as well.
Why should I, a lowly peon in this Nation of Babylon, care about the losses or profits of the capitalist elite and their overpriced merchandise? Good for those who take what they truly need, and nothing more, and never get caught if they truly have no other means. Good for them. The Government has taken enough from us all to compense.

I worked in a store. If the security guard doesn't see it there is nothing they can do for fear of false arrest. When the Security guard see's it they must follow the person until they leave to make sure they haven't dumped the merchandise before approached.
Geez, what a tattletale.

I would report them to the nearest store employee available. unless it was someone who looked needy. In which case I would tell them I saw what they did and ask them to replace the item. If they complied then I'd probably buy it for them.

i would have to say something..stealing is a sin..maybe if i thought they were poor and needed something to eat--i would buy some food for them..but i cannot stand by and watch someone commit a crime..and this does effect all people who shop there..cuz prices will have to be raised eventually to make up for all the people who shoplift..

Turn them in and have them arrested.
Why? It's the law. Two, the margin on goods is such that even stealing a modest item takes many more to make up for it.

I would tell a worker at the store. I don't think stealing is right - it only raises the prices of merchandise!!!

if I was absolutly certain I saw them, I would tell a store clerk. I'd want to make sure I was 100% sure in what I saw though
