I recently lost one younger dog and the older dog has howled, whined and begged to sleep with me, all things that she has never done before the other dog's death. The death was sudden and the older dog seems really sad. Am I crazy?

No, you are not crazy. As others have said the mourning time depends on the dog. I have found that it isn't just a dog/dog scenario. I recently lost a feret. My dog moped around for days afterward. He kept his belly very low to the floor, didn't play with his toys much, and stayed away from where we used to keep the feret. I thought after so many weeks, and since he was perky again that he had forgotton. The other day, I called him by the wrong name ( I said the ferets name) and he ran to where she used to be, running to look for her toys, and kept coming back to me as if to say - well....where is she?
Yes I do believe animals mourn. I am so sorry for your loss.

No you are not crazy - dogs mourn the death of a house-mate. Your dog will be sad for a while. No one can really say how long he'll mourn for - it's just as individual as with people.

Just try spending more time with him, sit quietly with him, take him for walks, do whatever he likes doing. He'll be fine in time.

I'm sorry you lost your dog.

No you are not crazy. When a dog loses a dog its the same has if one of your friends died.It might take a while for the dog to get over it or the dog may never get over it

No, you are not crazy. When you black lab died, our yellow lab was sad for months. If she saw a black dog, she ran to it thinking it was her friend.

Don't put away her friends toys, etc. Give her self months to adjust like a person. Dogs have intellegence. Like people they are capable of emotions, and sadness is one of them.

it depends how close the two dogs were. humans are not the only species capable of emotion. give him time. make sure you're there for him.
