It is an abcess and it is infected. The source could be a number of things like a bite or more commonly an abcessed tooth. The area needs to be drained of the infection and the cat needs antibiotics or else it will continue to get worse. A vet appt. is inevitable.

I would say that your cat may have gotten some kind of insect bite, not necessarily a bee sting(although that is a good possibility)and your cat could be allergic to it. The one thing I woud be concerned about, is that the pus is coming out. Good that it is coming out but not so good if there is pus! I would say to take your cat to the vet. to get it checked. It would be good to do whatever you can for your cat! Animals do not feel pain nor deal with bites, stings or anything else like we humans do, so don't go by her behavior. Go and be safe, especially if the swelling doesn't come down. Good luck! I'm sure, she'll be fine. :)

Until you have a vet check the abcess, look for a stinger, try to clean the wound with a warm rag, apply a basic triple antibiotic ointment. The abcess will have to be drained and an antibiotic may be prescribed by your vet. The problem with an abcess is the risk of infection will only add to the cat's discomfort and cost you more money at the vets.

If its pus then yes its very serious. Your cat needs to go to the vets and be put on a antibiotic. Of course its bothering your cat. I'm sure it hurts. Cats hide pain as they are low on the food chain. Sick weak animals get eaten. Thats why cats try to mask their pain and illness. It will continue to get worse and is life threatening if not treated.

It actually sounds more like an absyss to me and you should take her to the vet to get her checked out.
Sometimes when cats get into fights and are bitten by other cats the germs injected via the bite can be very toxic and it can be very dangerous. Your cat may not outwardly appear to be in a great deal of discomfort but if left unchecked the poison will cause no end of problems and make her very ill.
Poor old puss - get her off to the vets lickety-split!

It could be a bee sting. If it around the gum area, it could be an abscessed tooth (cats get gingivitis and have tooth problems). In any case, get her checked by a vet. Cats will not act sick until they are quite ill. You could be wasting precious time waiting to get her treated.

3 techniques are evoked... chilly packs (20 minutes on, 10 minutes off). shop his head above heart point whilst resting will make gravity artwork in his want. ultimately, one or 2 benedryl (or primary diphenhydramine 25mg) each and every 4-6 hours can shrink the histamine reaction of the physique. it is going to additionally make him sleepy because it relatively is a similar med as in Tylenol PM and different OTC sleep aids. observe on ice packs: in case you utilize a plastic bag, confirm you have a layer of fabric between plastic and epidermis. You threat frostbite in any different case. If the swelling worsens, or interferes with inhaling any way, you're transforming into a intense allergic reaction on your arms, and then it's time to call 9-a million-a million... suitable, Ed, RN

My cat did this and it was an abscess possibly caused by a fight or other injury. It needs to be opened, cleaned out and she should be put on antibiotics. Make an appointment with your vet as soon as possible.

I voted for a best answer.
Pus is a serious problem and the infection MUST be treated with antibiotic. The swelling indicates that the injury is not superficial and the vet is the only recouse for handling it.

she definitely could have been stung, but i don't think there would be pus coming out in that case. i think she probably got bit or scratched somehow and it is infected so your best bet would be to take her to the vet. i've had many cats and the wound might need to be drained. take her in... better safe than sorry, good luck.
